A Boeing 737 Max 8 plane — the same model that the Federal Aviation Administration grounded after two recent crashes — made an emergency landing at Orlando International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
No passengers were on the jet, only two pilots for the plane's owner, Southwest Airlines. The pilots were flying the jet to California for storage when an engine overheated just before 3 p.m., a spokesman for the airline told NBC News. The plane was in the air about 11 minutes, the spokesman said.

Surprised you can get any volunteers to fly them.

U-Plum is that of the Ethiopian wreckage? If so intrigued by the amount of aly-luminium with rivet holes. Thought the MAX-8 was all composite, just squeezed out of a tube and flattened like toothpaste.

No - as far as I know the MAX is just a 'heavy metal' 737 with duff equipment..............

Re: More Max8 Fun
It's a 707/727 fuselage/cockpit. Still made the old-fashioned way, just like pre-1930s ships. Squillions of rivets popped by Rosy the Riveter.
They seem to have found some village blacksmith somewhere in China who can stamp out 80286 chips on his forge and knock up 16-bit EPROM sockets on his anvil, 'cos that's the 1980s "brain-dead" chippery which drives most of the peripheral electronics in the relic.
Big difference between the Max and its predecessor/namesake type is that the 737 was longitudinally stable. Y'know, like an airliner should be.

I can't imagine the news of the Airbus/China deal today (?) pleased anyone at Boeing. 300 aircraft, even at discount prices, ain't peanuts.

Re: More Max8 Fun
A very 'safe' decision by the Chinese government, I'd say.
The Chinese middle class is vast and is rapidly becoming wealthy enough to have disposable income to spend on things other than domestic appliances. That means travel.
Ordinary Chinese people have access to world news, albeit processed by news agencies that are every bit as slanted as the BBC and Chicken Noodle News. They know that the Cripple Seven is suspect and that the MAS murder/suicide story is dodgy. They know that Boeing owns the FAA and that is effectively self-certifies its own products. They recognise the stench of corruption.
In the long term, Boeing/FAA/USG is shooting itself in the foot. The Chinese think long-term. Not 10 or 20 years ahead, but 40,60, 80 years ahead. They are no doubt concluding that they need to start developing a "third way" to replace the Airbus/Boeing duopoly. Good luck to 'em, I say.
American imperialism is visibly crumbling. Most of the world will not weep for it.

Go live and work in China with a Chinese company for no less than 12 months Mr Plum, say in Beijing, Shanghai or Schenzen (if you like fish), then tell us how much China is better than America.

Slight thread drift. Slasher welcome to the 21st century America, where your GP is happy to turn you into an oxycodin or fentanyl addict, whilst collecting commissions from the pharmaceutical companies for doing so.

Medical wise? Good point. While you're there Plum arrange a heart or lung or brain fettler to fettle those bits. Don't forget the State arranges the designated hospital and the surgeon. You don't get to pick unless you shell out big big bucks to whoever is doing the designating. Oh and do it the way the ordinary Chinese do it.
Hope you live. It's hit and miss. If you live but there's been a muckup try and see how far you get sueing the hospital.
While economically China is doing better, some things remain the same. It's called socialism though the Party insists it's Communism (Maoist).
Alisoncc - you seriously think that only happens in the USA? I'll refrain from Ben Shapiro'ing you but examine Canada Oz
Thailand(!!) Pakistan India Malaysia Singapore UK and a good chunk of EU. Some countries are far more clever at hiding the fact than others. And yes it's far more expensive in the US for medicines and medical care. You can go all the way back to Clinton and thereafter Obama and his "healthcare" system for that.
As for America - at the social level it's fuct. 75 genders? Gimme a damn break! And to even consider voting in a commie slag like Occasional Cortex (look up Exley) and that Jew-hating bitch Omar would've been unthinkable just a few years ago. Pelosi Warren etc are the symptoms not the causes. However I digress.
If I had a choice of who rules the global economy (China or America) I'd still pick the latter.
Getting back on topic - irrespective of the corruption and software issues, using a powerful flight control loke the stabiliser iso pure elevator (despite the 787 but that's another story) is just plain (plane?) stoopid.

Agree, but wait until China has wiped out any competition for general goods and services then ..... see prices skyrocket ! Reckon the $2.00 shops will still be around ? Fat chance, more like $4 mill. shops. If I had a choice of who rules the global economy (China or America) I'd still pick the latter.
