Nepalese aviation has a poor safety record, just read that all Nepalese Operators are banned from EU airspace due to this. Happened during take off.

I read a Lukla accident report once, total f#ckwittery from all concerned. Experienced aircrew, my @rse; I'd sooner walk the whole way from the Indian Ocean.
They are all f#ckwits. That's a technical opinion from a trained and experienced Flight Safety OfficerThe reason for Saturday's accident is not clear.

Here's a video of the accident. Seems incredible! The helicopter had only landed a few seconds before the collision. No sign of any fire services.....

Having seen the video, I will upgrade my assessment to "total f#ckwits".
The first 30 foot of the roll seems straight.
Lost power on the right engine and failed to retard the left?
If so, it was about the only thing on that 'plane that wasn't retarded.
There was an accident involving an L-410 two years ago where the right engine went into reverse thrust whilst airborne. That would do the trick.
Another crashed on take-off in 2012 due to fuel contamination in the right engine FCU. That would do it also.

People may remember it was a L-410 involved in the Congolese crocodile crash, where the passengers stampeded away from an escaped crocodile, which put the CoG out of limits and the aircraft crashed on short finals*. One passenger survived.
And the crocodile.
Though it was dispatched shortly afterwards.
* that's one-up on the 'birdstrike on short finals' problem. Perhaps Slash can include that in his sim emergencies repertoire

No the accident was clearly the down slope on the runway and the buildings too close

Interesting theory, PN, except it does not explain how the previous take-off did not crash (same type). I think Fox's answer is more likely the correct one.

Interesting aside: I once worked with an American who had been the King of Nepal's personal pilot. He related a tale of suffering engine failure at 50 feet on takeoff, and landing 10 minutes later...owing to gliding all the way to the valley bottom, some 10,000 foot below.

A new video of the accident has surfaced - taken from the other side of the runway. How more weren't killed is amazing. Actual incident from 1:05 onwards.

The two guys walking closest to the runway were taken out by the prop and gear. The bloke under the chopper I think for his head bashed to bits.
