Duxford based Spitfire damaged at Middleberg

#1 Post by TheGreenGoblin » Sun Aug 25, 2019 2:43 pm

Duxford-based Spitfire PR XI PL983 suffered an accident in the Netherlands on the 22 August after the port gear collapsed after a hard landing and the aircraft suffered a prop strike.

An interesting albeit sad history (RIP Martin Sargeant). I hope the aircraft is soon back in the air, although I imagine the engine might well have been shock loaded which will be very expensive to remedy.

Nearly so much worse if he'd gone over the vertical - this is a still from a video which I haven't been able to find.

So good G-PRXI didn't go over.

Some nice footage of the John Romain aircraft after the completion of restoration last year...
