https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/ne ... 73386.htmlA plane skidded off the runway in Istanbul in heavy rain.
The incident, involving a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, has temporarily shut the airport. All departures and arrivals, both international and domestic, have been cancelled.
The Pegasus Airlines flight was en route from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Sabiha Gokcen airport in Istanbul when it slid off the runway.
The low-cost Turkish airline said that an aircraft had “experienced a runway excursion”.

Though you remain

You must have somewhere
To go
Your destination remains

Oooops ! !
Is this the curse of Vref + 20kts striking again? As Private Eye used to say, mocking the British tabloid press, “I think we should be told!”.
The O-N thread ‘Boating 737’ tried to get to the truth but soon ceased awaiting the next incident. And imagine my surprise?
Luckily it appears no fatalities but evacuation usually results in injuries.......

Looks more like a 'crosswind event' on a wet runway to me. Only 1000mtrs from touchdown. Note the speedbrakes were not retracted prior to evacuation............

The air is tense awaiting the duty METAR and the in-use runway direction?

Re: Pegasus 737 departs runway - Instanbul
Thanks for that boac, I might not have slept as well tonight, particularly as it’s dry January so no anaesthetic these evenings.
30 degrees off at that strength not overly challenging even with winglets but it would be interesting to see what the DFDR says about the actual wind affecting the ‘frame-possible anemometer siting as at Knock in Oireland? That’s another XL Airways story in the composition!
Might have had asymmetric T/R which should also come out in the wash. Looks like a lot of laundry of pax clothing needed after trampling through that mud. And the decision to evacuate? Theoretically can’t be criticised but without immediate danger to the paying occupants from fire etc then I’d be considering options, fast. Unless the CC initiated it due to perceived excursion or wierd noises therefore not a lot that seat 0A can do about it.
There, that might kick off some comments, O-N seems to be still in post holiday lethargy.

“Pegasus 737 departs runway - Instanbul.”
Isn’t it normal for 737s to depart runways not only in IST but other airports too? You know...racing down he runway...pulling the stick back...getting airborne.

- some operators have an SOP where if there is possible fuselage/engine damage eg soft mud - and a possible fire risk, evacuate.Unless the CC initiated it due to perceived excursion or wierd noises therefore not a lot that seat 0A can do about it.
