You did see my correction and the nudge from Woody? I am correct about the changed procedure but I was not about the original procedure. What I wrote was thus not correct so I am not sure what you are saying?

I will repeat
He was badly affected mentally.
He strictly followed the BEA SOP of the time.
As Woody said, the SOP changed to stay on the runway and consider the wind if possible. Turn towards the burning engine in a headwind and away in a tail. Is that any clearer?
I read your first post it seemed a bit unclear but I did accept it. Obviously the answer to Woody did make sense.

I spoke to a fire-fighter in mid 90's. He belonged to a UK city fire department but he was expected to to attend aircraft accidents scene in nearby airport. He still believed the pilot would take the aircraft out of the runway in case of emergency.

Emergency possibly; fire I would expect not.

I don't recall the exact wording of him attending the incident.
Didn't the FO of BA38 resigned?

Energy Management, or failure so to do, once again has claimed and will claim hulls and lives.

Does modern airline training encourage or even stress the existence of “gates” and the necessity to pass through them with the correct kinetic energy?

Or is it yet another case of “not invented here so we won’t bother with that idea”? ~X(

Stable at 1,000 ft IMC on profile, on speed and fully configured. If not, mandatory go around.
Same for VMC except must be stable by 500 ft.

Possibly a better gate series would start at 10,000 ft ARTE, then there’s plenty of time to sort out the approaching mess long before the usually reluctant decision to go-around?

And ultimately the original ToD position should start the mental warning bells ringing... :O3

In some cases, probably better not to take-off in the first place?

Agreed, especially when one does not possess an appropriate valid licence and experience commensurate for the task?

PIA and others please note...
