French Helicopter Crash

#1 Post by FD2 » Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:36 pm

The BBC reports that help is on the way to a helicopter crash in France with 6 onboard. It also reports that the pilot managed to 'eject' - wonderful what the French have managed to develop in the way of safety systems without the rest of the world knowing!!

I hope it's not another case of cramming six into a Squirrel...

France helicopter crash: Rescue operation under way in Alps

A helicopter carrying six people has crashed in the French Alps.

The aircraft - owned by Service Aérien Francais, a mountain rescue company - went down near the town of Bonvillar in the Savoie area.

A rescue operation involving 40 people and three helicopters is under way. The cause of the crash is unknown.

The alarm was raised by the pilot who managed to eject, and contact has been made with one person involved in the crash, local officials say.

Twitter message posted by Emmanuel Macron states that - Google translation - 3 members of French Air Rescue and 2 CRS Alpes have died in the crash and one is fighting for his life.

It seems it is the pilot who is badly injured. Rescue helicopters couldn't get to the scene due to fog .......

Not surprised if he ejected. Probably found him in slices. Sad news when a rescue organisation has an accident.

This morning it is reported that it was an EC135 on a training mission with two pilots, one under training, two winch operators and two mountain rescue personnel. The EC135 is a six seater including pilot(s) but can seat seven in a dense layout.

A bigger machine then. One report that I can't find now says they were at a very high altitude but I would think that was in contact with the ground. No doubt all will be clear when the pilot can tell the investigators what happened.

Maybe the young journalist mistook being ejected or thrown from the aircraft by the impact forces, for ejecting in a bang seat.
