Our problem with the VC10 was getting the door closed not open. After the cargo had been loaded the airframe could twist and the door wouldn't fit. The solution was to taxi around in circles opening and closing it until it slotted in. This instilled great confidence into the passengers standing in the terminal watching the whole palaver on the apron in front of them.

An open cargo door seems like an invitation to disaster and brought this horror to mind.
