Re: Hmm
Last flew XR806 August 1993 to Split. Below was December 1997. The true caption for this was, 'Take the fuel out of the fin tank first Florence'. Gauge on engineer's panel showed zero but she should have known that they were defueling it from a full fuel load and been suspicious of the gauge. A right off.
'Yes, Madam, I am drunk, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly.' Sir Winston Churchill.

Re: Hmm
At least one Vulcan was readied for a zero length launch. We were taxying past the Eng bay at Akrotiri as the mishap was occurring.
The aircraft was at the point of balance and only one airman loosely in charge as the nose oleo extended and the nose wheel started to lift.
Of several courses of action, rather than total reaction, he chose the least effective. He threw himself on the towing arm which delayed the inevitable for only a moment.
In retrospect, almost 50 years later, my skipper could have stopped and we might have been able to help.
