Conversely 'our' military bases seem to encircle the former USSR (and China).

'We', well, the Septics mostly, do seem to be getting terribly aggressive to an awful lot of millions of people and we seem to threaten a huge area of Europe and Northern Asia.

Now the Russians are joining in, as if they weren’t involved in the first place?

Interesting to see that the BBC, or is it Integrity Initiative(?), is still parroting the line that "a Ryanair plane was forced to divert and land in Minsk", despite the fact that it was not "forced" to land by a fighter jet at all.

They were told of a bomb 'threat' and it was the Captain who decided to land at Minsk instead of the destination. The fighter came along later, as is quite normal on such occasions as a loss of comms or a bomb threat.

If the EU wanted to escalate with Russia, all they need do is refuse any flight that overflies Belarus, which would put the Russian carriers who chose to go that route in the same boat as Air France and those that chose not to.

Local news (somewhat reasonable station) mentioned the Captain was not allowed to contact Ryanair ops to discuss the actions to be taken when the bomb threat (invented by the Belarus government) was announced to the flight.

The Captain decided to divert to the nearest due to the bomb threat.

Some say that this is quite an ordinary decision for a Captain to make in such circumstances.

He was not a pirate. Neither was anyone else.

So all and well good then, diverting a commercial airliner under false pretext in order to kidnap a journalist......you are happy for this to have occured?

Maybe it is just me who has a problem with this....and the guy over the road, and my Wife, and many others

According to map presentations at the time he was much nearer to his flight planned destination that the airfield to which he was diverted.

When?

At the time of the bomb hoax call?

Anyway, he wasn't diverted. He diverted. A semantic difference, I know, but a significant one, especially when subsequently accompanied by an armed fighter escort.

I would hope that HMG continues the current policy of sending a 'phoon escort to accompany diversions in such circumstances within the UK FIRs. Usually involving a resultant parking spot being reserved at a certain specially equipped compass base at Stanstead. B-)

At the time he left he left his flight planned track for the forced diversion.

So, not at the relevant time of the bomb hoax then. I see. ;)))

Whichever way you look at it, it was not a hijacking and the airliner was not forced down by fighter jets.

Sure, the Byeloruss gumment are a nasty bunch of bastards. They wouldn't be being wooed to join NATO if they weren't. Image

OK UP, I think we need to agree to disagree on this one.....I, and I am not alone, do not agree this was 'Kosher', and yet nothing is being done about it.

A hypothetical, a BA flight to SIN. forced down with a hoax bomb threat & fighter escort into say any number of 'stans'...well take your pick really, and you'd be happy with it? That would sit comfortably with you?
