https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... e-off.htmlTwo Iranian fighter jet pilots were killed on Tuesday when their ejector seats activated before take-off, smashing them into the hangar roof.
State broadcaster IRIB reported the F-5 fighter jet had a 'technical problem' that killed both the pilots, identified as as Kianoush Basati and Hossein Nami.
The report said the incident unfolded at Dezful Vahdati Air Force Base, approximately 270 miles south of the capital Tehran, and near the Iraq border.

Re: Iranian fighter pilots killed by faulty ejection system.
If this is the same event as I saw earlier, at least one groundcrew was badly burned by the rocket exhaust as the seats fired. Probably another case of snagging the bottom handle like the Reds. Then if one seat fires, with 'command ejection'..................
Correction: I think this is a new incident. The one I posted was a Russian SU I think and I believe the pilots survived..
Let's not make a habit of that, eh?

I think it is a mistake that few will make twice.

Depends whether it was the F5 or the F5 derivative. Do we know?

Re: Iranian fighter pilots killed by faulty ejection system.
The Kharg was built in Britain, having been ordered by the Shah. It was finally delivered to the new regime in 1984 after much wrangling. The Chieftain tank order wasn't delivered and the £400,000 000 Iranian payment not returned to the Iranians, which reflects pretty poorly on Britain really, and is a bit rich coming from an arm's dealing country. The Iranian regime's previous , and the current, use of political prisoners as hostages in this ongoing legal battle is also disgraceful and our current government's, and Johnson's, ineptitude in handling this ongoing affair, noteworthy but not surprising.
The Iranians had many officers training in SA in the 70's. They were generally decent folks, later caught up in the turmoil, none of it of their own making. I take no delight, nor do I joke about the unfortunate deaths of their pilots due to technological failure, nor in the loss of this ship.

Re: Iranian fighter pilots killed by faulty ejection system.
The yehudis seem to have been very busy at sea these past two years.
It's already showing in shipping insurance costs! 'War zone' risk areas have been extended from the Gulf to the Med, with great emphasis on the Eastern Med.
Only a few years ago piracy was the biggest risk in marine insurance. Nowadays it's the **** jewboys that are the biggest threat to tanker traffic through the straights of Ma'andeb and Jubal.

I read that the Iranians had admitted it was a training exercise that went wrong. Have they changed their minds?
