Poole Air crash
Poole Air crash
One of a pair of Stearmans taking part in the Bournemouth air display apparently had to ditch in Poole Harbour today. Both 'occupants' escaped with reported minor injuries. I don't know who the crew were or whether it was 'Cubes' flying.
Considering one was a wing walker.................................................................
Didn't look too enjoyable!

Re: Poole Air crash
I have tracked down the video again! I gather from witnesses that the lady had recovered to the cockpit before the crash (I bet she is pleased about that....)

Apparently not! My apologies my dear chap!
I was in the process of correcting my comment when you responded!
Perhaps our kind Admin can be persuaded to join the threads so that chronology might be preserved!

Re: Poole Air crash
I see from the Mail the pilot opting to land amongst the 100s of boats in the marina.
If he did, he never made it. He appears to be on the Channel side of the harbour entrance. What he might have done was avoided the beaches that would certainly have had a few dozen people not to mention rock breakwaters every couple of hundred yards.

That the Sandbank beaches are busy is a given but much less so than Bournemouth.

All in all better to land in the drink and survive than smite an obstacle on the seafront!
This accident, unfortunately, did not have such a good outcome... Too low, too slow!

Dinna fret, TGG. It is what happens on an unmoderated forum like O-N - topic duplication, thread divergence (I recall you possibly coined a trigraph for that a while back?) etc etc. Even pissters who don't bathroom to look at the hieroglyphics they have pestered.
I think with the powers wot the blessed mother has ordained upon me I probably could do the merge, but cannot be arsed. No doubt both threads will be added to in time by the myopic. Enjoy!
EDIT: That should have read 'posters'/'bother'/'posted'

Pilot in Bournemouth Air Festival crash deserves a medal, say rescuers
Two people were injured after an aerobatics display team plane crashed at the Bournemouth Air Festival
By Telegraph Reporters 5 September 2021 • 7:35pm
The pilot of the wingwalker plane which crashed into Bournemouth harbour during an air display deserves a medal, according to rescuers.
The two-seat biplane had been taking part in the Bournemouth Air Festival when it came down in Poole Harbour, near Sandbanks, on Saturday afternoon.
Libby Chambers, her partner, Alan Badenhorst, and their three children had been watching the air show from a dinghy and witnessed the crash.
“The pilot was straight out and I remember he pulled the wingwalker out and she was in quite a state really – she was petrified and couldn’t stop screaming,” Ms Chambers told the Bournemouth Echo.
The family went to rescue the pilot and wingwalker and pulled them into their dinghy.
“The pilot was incredible, he deserves a medal – I have no idea how he missed the rocks, the marker and the boats – he was just out of this world,” added Ms Chambers.

Yes, it almost hilarious, given some of the comments made by the press. As I mentioned on the other thread, one journalist nincompoop wrote that the AAIB would be looking for the black box, as part of their investigation!FD2 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 10:16 pmYes - as expected the hero comments have started. Oh well, I am happy, at least one South African was involved, even if ever so peripherally, in the "great rescue"... Badenhorst is a quintessential Saffer surname.
Perhaps he is the famous Alan Badenhorst....

I imagine it's quite tricky screaming when you are trying to stop drowning. Listening again to the Sun video, there is certainly screaming so she got that right. Might have chipped a fingernail.

Re: Poole Air crash
And the Independent has continued the ludicrous "black box" meme
What can one say about such a ludicrous statement? I mean what else might the pilot have been thinking when he landed in the water? Perhaps he wanted a swim?Officials are trying to find the aircraft’s black box to establish what happened, according to local media, though it has already been alleged there was some kind of issue with the plane’s engine.

How long will divers look for the black box? Could be a l O n g time. I might ask my Son in Law to pop one in tonight.
