I do have a photograph of a tornado at Stapleford taken on final some months back...I will fish it out...

I was unaware of a tornado locally yesterday.

Looks like it hit up at the heli-maintenance shop.

Yep, it was at Stapleford. Hit up at the heli-maintenance side. The chief pilot has just sent me security video of the tornado which hit the parked helicopters!

Pity we can't post MP4 here. The video shows the wind hitting the helicopters..

Just heard that the maintenance outfit lost 4 heli's of the 5 they had on the field, lost in that they have rotor damage... Insurance assessors are looking at them at the moment. At least one may be a right off it seems.

Merci... :-bd

English standards Timothy. A write off is effectively a "wrong" off I guess.

PS - Despite that fact that I think in Afrikaans doesn't mean to say that I didn't know the term. I do work in the insurance industry (albeit in a mathematical way) for God's sake... ;)))

News also claims they are "Aerospatiale helicopters", that company has long gone, they changed to Eurocopter and now Airbus.

It's quite a long job in some cases to check whether they will every be flyable again. In other cases very obvious. We had an S61N in BAH which had been pranged at some time and was repaired - no doubt 'safely' - but never flew exactly straight again.

It's sad to see so much damage but good they were insured. I hope the insurers play fair.
