Seriously, a salutary lesson for those who fly, especially in light aircraft.

In the year dot when we were based on the east side of Aberdeen Airport one of our S61s was ground taxying as normal out to the runway but if I recall correctly his path was blocked by another helicopter trying to sort out a problem before departure. So the S61 lifted into the hover and hover taxied past the other helo to the runway. Unfortunately three light Cessnas were parked quite some distance away. The wings of two Cessnas were tied down to concrete blocks but 20,500lbs of downthrust plus the prevailing wind blew the other one onto its back. A poor decision by the S61 Captain - no tea and biscuits at the subsequent interview.

Edit: holocipters, that's a new one - I thought they were hicopleters...according to AP129 many years ago!

There are those of us of a certain age well aware of that strange beast the hicopleter.

The uninitiated are completely bemused, more so when others confirm such a beast existed.

Yes, Peter Forbes was not a happy man!

Found this on a very old TOP post:
I was there the day that G-ATNK was blown over. It did indeed happen as a B-Cal S-61 taxied (hover taxied) past the pan. NK wasn't the only aircraft affected though, C-172 G-BMCI also suffered a bent wing tip as it too was tipped up. It was sitting at right angles to the chopper whereas NK was sitting nose on. CI was repaired, but as the press clipping says, NK was a write off and left Aberdeen minus its wings on the back of a trailer.
We reckoned that when it got flipped onto its back it was the fastest rate of climb it had ever experienced !
