JetBlue A321, Turkish Falcon 2000LX go nose-up in separate incidents on same day

Two aircraft tipped onto their tails in separate incidents thousands of miles apart on October 22, 2023.

In one of those incidents, a JetBlue Airbus A321 tipped onto its tail while parked at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The stationary aircraft, registration N959JB, was next to one of JFK’s Terminal 5 jetbridges when, for reasons not yet known, it became unbalanced.


Footage posted on several social media accounts show the A321 with the rear part of its fuselage touching the ground, while the frontal landing gear had come away from the tarmac with its nose pointing up at an angle.

The aircraft had arrived from Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), Barbados, after operating flight B6662.

Possible damage suffered by the airframe because of the incident is yet to be determined.

Remarkably, this was not the only aircraft to accidentally tip on its tail on October 22.

A Falcon 2000LX executive jet operated by Turkish firm Nurol Holding, registration TC-SGO, appeared to have tipped on its tail while parked at Riyadh Airport (RUH), Saudi Arabia.



The incident took place after the aircraft was parked on the tarmac with fuel below the limit and exposed to strong winds.
