Way too early this morning, thanks to my messed up sleep schedule, I watched a program on The Smithsonian Channel program "Air Disasters" featuring this North Sea ditching.
I am sure that some of our correspondents here are very familiar with this accident and the pilots involved.
At least it had a happy ending for a change.

Yes, I know both the gentleman concerned as I worked for Bristow in Aberdeen at the time of the accident, although not on that fleet. The co-pilot, Lionel Sole, led a charmed life as he was a member of the gliding club at Aboyne (west of Aberdeen) and at altitude one day he found his elevator had become disconnected from the stick. He took to his parachute and landed safely.
