Re: Photobucket
Don't need it on OUR site. Unlike many other forums we host all our own images ourselves. Recently deleted some images I was hosting for TOP and now there is a big blank space where they used to be.

Re: Photobucket
So what do the forum members suggest as a free alternative for sombody who just wants to put up the occasional pic for another person(s) to see and when the pic can't easily be emailed or sent to the other person(s) as a file?

Re: Photobucket
I don't use anything. Just go to the square picture icon and add your pic to the box. I believe copy & paste just to the page works as well. Photobucket was a pain in the arse and I never could be faffed to post pictures on TOP

Re: Photobucket
That's OK for here, but I don't think I should use Alison's bandwidth to host a picture for a mate who has no aeronautical interest to see.

Re: Photobucket
If you have dropbox, you can create a folder and save your image into it and then give you mate the credentials for shared access. See Dropbox shared folders

Re: Photobucket
Thanks, Izod, I'll take a look at it, it might just do for my meagre needs.

Re: Photobucket
I'm a member of several model sites, where I post pictures of my work - build logs, how to's etc. - and while I have no problem with Photobucket yet, other modellers have had. They have been switching to Imgur, which is a free web-based site, the way PB used to be. Apparently if you are a paid member of Photobucket, as I am, the option to disallow third party hosting does not come into effect until the end of December 2018. I recently paid my yearly fee, and all seems to be working well. If they disallow third party hosting for the plan I have - the $59.99 USD option - and require me to buy the $400.00 USD plan to allow third party hosting, I shall tell them to take a flying fcuk, request my money back and go to Imgur.

Re: Photobucket
WARNING - signing up with imgur may be easy if you have an account at some site with an icon that I guess you will recognise, otherwise you need to have a high sense of ESP to be able to fill in the registration form, which contains black boxes on a black background, and only tells you what you should have put in the boxes once you have found where they are and put something in. When you have finally entered a valid username and email addy, you have to try all combinations of passwords, as the only response to an invalid one seems to be to tell you it should be at least 6 characters. I will not be joining.

Re: Photobucket
Thanks for the heads up unifoxos.
Re: Photobucket
I spend time on a classic bike forum, often post photographs of documents, (parts catalogues, wiring diagrams and so on), that particular forum has an attachment button exactly like an email, this posts the photo in thumbnail size which keeps the forum size sensible, anyone who wishes to view the thumbnail clicks on it and it goes full screen.
I have posted quite a few aircraft photos on TOP, all of which have now been replaced by a sort of PB logo thing.
Posting on here is easy compared to the fiddly TOP,

Om,
It sounds as though your bike forum is a Yahoo list, Is this so?

Don't know, what is a Yahoo list?

Re: Photobucket
Google photos - a quick test
Well that seemed to work. Free, fast and intuitive - I'd also been recommended to try Flickr, but couldn't figure out how to work it. Logged into Google Photos immediately (PC was already logged in for email), drag and drop a random pic, insert here as an image. (OK, I don't need to do it on this forum, but I guess if it works here it will work elsewhere). Pic is me at 3, BTW.

That's natty, is it modelled on the air raid suit worn by Churchill? we didn't have central heating in those days!

Re: Photobucket
Don't know about the style, it would be about '48, so maybe WSC's wardrobe had changed by then - tho' it was likely a hand-me-down from an older cousin or neighbour so may have been a wartime product anyway.
