A little bit about who we are
Re: A little bit about who we are
I didn't pretend to be anyone else on TOP, I could have done had I wished to, and would have got away with as I am a damn sight smarter than Wanking Wobby or any of their pathetic censors, but I chose not to, and they banned my 'alter ego' quite quickly too.

Any attempts at me trying to delude the bore(s) at TOP (IP addresses aside) by casual posting were scuppered by my outbreaks of laughter, occasional inebriation and sundry music videos Capetonian but I still do post there very occasionally in my serious aviation persona. No smiles, no music, no fun, just hard bitten good earnest sense and the use of a non obvious proxy. Very dull!

Re: A little bit about who we are
I have only just noticed this bit of the forum so I suppose I should write a bit about myself.
My mother was in the WAAF but not married when she became pregnant so she had to leave. After my birth in 1943 she left me with her parents and rejoined the WAAF. I've no idea who my father was but my DNA results, recently obtained, show 33 percent Scandanavian!
Usual upbringing in Derbyshire village of Hayfield, got into grammar school (but wasted it, drifted along with no concept of education or work). Aged 16 left school with 3 "O" levels and joined the RAF. Wanted to be a ground wireless fitter but my defective colour vision put a stop to that and I became a Boy Entrant u/t Telegraphist II. Had a reasonably entertaining 12 years of RAF life before demob in 1973 whereupon I found that my RAF training and experience allowed me to become a GCHQ Radio Officer after a course at the Central Training School, Bletchley Park. Thus began a 30 year career as a Civil Servant, culminating in retirement at Scarborough in 2003 and a move to peace & quiet in Orkney the following year.

Re: A little bit about who we are
Well after a long time in the other place, I have decided to follow some very esteemed company onto this site.
A little background: Born in Yorkshire, my life and career was mapped out for me by my strong Engineering Union parents (Local shop steward and union secretary.) After I rejected an opportunity to do politics at Oxford, the writing was on the wall, so I quit and signed on as; (Sorry Ricardian), El Tech GC later becoming a El Fit GC. 1 Grp Bawtry, El Adem, 38 Grp Benson, followed by all sorts of weird detachments, postings, assignments. etc. Got into Gliding at Lindholme, Locking, etc.
I left the RAF after a rather short 6+ years and moved into computer engineering, design engineering, technical consultancy, knowledge management, records management and sales. Completed a PPL/NR in Cape Town and flew
all over South Africa, also in the USA and UK.
Retired to Antibes in the South of France three years ago, love the sea, yachts, boats, etc. but most of all I remain passionate about aviation in all aspects.

Welcome Imagegear to the funny farm. Whilst we do have a few members who get roasted every so often, and a few who are boiled, the vast bulk of them are steamed.

Re: A little bit about who we are
Sorry, peeps, posted my first on "new Faces".....but seems like I know 99% of the members' names already. Yes, the same "not a qualified pilot" (but have an opinion) who is still a registered member on TOP, despite being locked-out if I log-in. no big loss to me....it seems to be having a long, slow decline. As with many here, I found a home on "Flyer" (where I still have a few who resent me as "an outsider"

I have just stumbled back upon this thread and seen that people seem to me and Lily confused for the same person. I can confirm I am not in fact, Lily.

I’ve just misread that as “sane person “, nobody’s ever accused Lily of thatTech Records Gal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 8:57 amI have just stumbled back upon this thread and seen that people seem to me and Lily confused for the same person. I can confirm I am not in fact, Lily.

Just for the record, and for the avoidance of doubt: I am not, and never have been, a Meerkat or a Colonel in the GRU.

Clearly MI6 or a spook attached to some other shadowy specialism in support of <censored> I say!
I will say no more on the matter. Need to know basis and all that...

TRG have it on good authority by private e-mail that you are not HER indeed you are apparenly a good egg. She has I believe been banned until her reincarnation. As what I am not sure and wouldn't like to speculate. No doubt Caco will come up with a good idea.

Now I've done my first solo, when will I be allowed out on my first cross-country?
