Sorry this is off thread, but the above reminded me ..... A BOAC crew checked out of the Park Hotel in Hong Kong one day, but later that night returned, as their aircraft had gone unserviceable, and as they were checking in again and being handed room keys, a Chinese staff member was heard to say .. " Funny, all British crews look the same to me"Quote ... I suppose they thought that to me all Chinese looked the same,

Re: Somewhat of an adventure
The root post is an excellent read. Thankyou, Mister John.
I now see why John Hill was so knowledgeable about the actuality of Korea in his posts in another place. Oddly, he was excoriated there for being so knowledgeable about a country which most of us will never visit and very few of us can ever understand.

Thank you UP and please do not count me among those who understand North Korea.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

Says a lot more about YOU than it does about him.

Check or cheek? If the latter, whose cheek?
Re: Somewhat of an adventure

Re: Somewhat of an adventure
John's posts on NK are always worth reading for his personal, experience based insights into an enigmatic country whose complex society and history is hard to discern through the prism of post Korean war propaganda that emanates from both ideological sides to the conflict. I always find his stuff worth reading, if not simply to have one's preconceptions challenged. It is always amusing to see those that castigate him for sharing such while having nil actual experience of the place themselves. Not saying I agree with everything he says but he sure is interesting.

Where is Kim Jong Hill these days? I hope he's OK.
I am watching Michael Palin's special documentary on C5 about NK. Very interesting.

Re: Somewhat of an adventure
I didn't see the documentary Cape. Did Mr Palin discover anything we don't already know about Norkville?

Slash you know everything that is needed to be known about norks! I thought you had a first from Oxford in the morphology of norks!
Oh, wait! I see I have made a mistake here. You are talking about North Koreans!

A bit touchy are you? There's no need for the abuse, I'd have thought you'd have been pleased at the reference to someone who appeared to be one of your heroes. Do forgive me if I'm mistaken.Hey Arsewipe, I do have a proper name you know!
Caco : Not really much we couldn't have surmised. He was trailed every inch of the way by 'guides' with programmed responses. The city looked remarkably clean and what struck me was the absence of traffic and people. A thoroughly repressive regime, no internet except the Nork version, and apparently no international calling. It's not on my list of places to visit.

Re: Somewhat of an adventure
I hear you Capetonian. A good mate of mine spent some time working in South Korea and that didn't sound like a bundle of fun either. He did one of the potted tours north of the border you mention and it was pretty much as described by you. He is now working in Saudi Arabia, so pretty much from the frying pan into the fire for him.Capetonian wrote: ↑Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:22 amA bit touchy are you? North Korea and Saudi Arabia are down there with Guyana, Bangladesh, Burundi and Somalia as places I would rather not visit...

Re: Somewhat of an adventure
That is a pic worth posting, Slasher. Something going on there with the legs, guns etc.....I've seen other posts of female NK Squaddies that have the same effect...
Anyone got any more?
A large quantity would be good!
I feel a stirring in my loins....

Looks like they’re all wearing issue anti-impregnation knickers! No stirring in my lions, cheetahs, tigers or any kind of pussy.
