Just done a check round the house - 10 room stats though two were on the wrong time over summer - garden clock, microwave, oven, kitchen, car, two long case clocks, innumerable watches, about 30 in all. And some you need to find how to do it even.

At least all the important parts of the world change now at the same time. There was a 'time' - probably as late as 2000, when the UK and Europe changed on a different day which made briefing crew on 'pick-up' time after a night-stop in mainland Europe - when 'they' had changed and the UK hadn't (and most c/crew stayed on UK time) a laugh.

Yes, during my regular flying period in the 1980s it was sometimes chaos.

Yes, the US still chooses to be different, doesn't change until next weekend. Screws up my listening something rotten, all the UK stuff I listen to on the internet is now an hour late for a week.

An odd thing. Our bedroom clock/radio changed one day early. Woke up on Saturday and it had already 'gone back' an hour. Unplugged it, cleared memory, plugged it in again, back to the same time !

Just spotted this thread. At 20 south we do not change the clocks. The difference between longest and shortest day is just 2 hrs 20 mins. However in the winter our estate manager had problems walking the 5 km to work in the dark as he was worried about bumping into an elephant, which he did on a couple of occasions. So instead of working 07.00 - 13.00 we moved his times to 08.00 - 14.00. Why can't the UK do this if a person's occupation or situation depends on it being a daylight start? Just stick to GMT.

Indeed. Keep time the same, change working hours. I joined the GPO in 1961. Working outdoors we had different working hours summer and winter. Today I never move my watch hands travelling intercontinentally. Just remember it's an hour earlier. Or later, or whatever.

Yes, I'm a fan of leaving time where noon is approximately when the sun is at its highest and then adjusting working hours. Great excuse for being late to work though, "Sorry, I'm late Boss, bumped into an elephant on the way to work".

Funnily enough that is exactly what he said. He had to hide behind a tree whilst it passed. I knew he was telling the truth because we saw the tracks the following day.

A motion? or its vital signs?

Oddly enough while delivering a 90' gentleman's motor yacht to the Far South, two members of the crew went into port one night and got pissed on by an elephant. They smelled atrocious.

There was an announcement on our company electronic notice board that 'a black woman's sunglasses' had been found. Apparently the only black woman in the company (of 900 people!) was not amused when several people called her to tell her that her sunglasses had been found.

The Noggees very wisely move their work day with the sun. In summer start early, enjoy afternoon, evening and so on through midnight sun. Very sensible.

Isn't it a waste of a day trying to sleep till 7 or 8 in full sunlight? Similarly, with many workers where working in daylight is not important, start your winter work day at 7 and enjoy some daylight at end of work.

Agree.
I find summer early mornings exhilarating, and prefer summer evenings that are cooling and dark by bedtime.

Never liked mucking abaht with the clocks.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...
