MS Office installs

#1 Post by Boac » Tue Jan 08, 2019 9:58 pm

Any ideas? I tried installing Office 2016 on a machine with 2010 on. All attempts to run 2016 (NB on its own) result in a corrupt pst file. (16 and 10 use the same pst file). Long call with M$ second level support who said you cannot have Outlook 10 and 16 on the same machine - this is contrary to the internet 'help' posts from 'M$ Office help' who say you can!

However, at their suggestion I uninstalled ALL OFFICE and re-installed 2016, but with the same result.I have another marathon telecon with then tomorrow night but am fresh out of ideas. In the meantime I have re-installed 2010 and it works fine!

I have 2007, installed 2016, hated the muted pastel coloy, buggered up Outlook. Uninstalled. Had to do reinstall on07. Only problem now is I have to give permission every time I open Outlook.

Hmm - sounds like a similar problem.

Have you tried Ccleaner? Had a slightly similar situation 3 weeks ago when Avast! suddenly decided it was dangerous to open any .pdf files. Reinstalling both the av and Acrobat still didn't work. So uninstalled both, ran Ccleaner registry cleaner, then my new and clean installs worked.
(so far...)

I run cc cleaner every day, followed by Malware bytes. One word of warning. Look carefully at the setup for cc cleaner and don't necessarily use the options it comes with.

Thanks all, but it is a Microsoft issue and I have raised it with them as a complaint after a few hours of tech support (the real sort!) from MS.

The original supplier has offered a refund (good on him!). Sticking with 2010. It may be a problem having an MSI install of 2010 and a 'click to run' install of 2016. Optimistically I have suggested to MS they should carry some warning about this...........
