Rant of the Day v2.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Some parts of Germany have weird ways of telling the time as well, fünf vor drei viertel sieben (five before three quarters seven) is 6:40!
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
How do the Germans ever manage to be on time? By the time you've worked it out you're running late!

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Effin E.ON!! They contacted me a few weeks ago saying they need to change my current electricity meter for a Smart meter. Told them I didn't want one and the operator said "OK, but can we contact you in six months to see if you have changed your mind". I said "No". Last week spoke to E.ON about my current tariff and the first thing the operator said was "Do you want a Smart meter?" Again I said 'No' and referred them to my account details which should show my previous conversation.
Today, the barstards have sent me an e-mail saying they need to change my meter for a Smart meter. One has launched off a snotogram telling them I don't want one and please leave me alone. I added a bit about their continuing to contact me will be viewed as harassment and I may take appropriate action through formal procedures.
Don't know if it will work, but we'll see.
Are all energy suppliers adopting these tactics?

I don't want a smart meter, however, I live down a steep hill sheltered in a valley, and there will be no mobile 'phone signal at ground level.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Having made the mistake of getting a smart meter i would urge anyone thinking of getting one to think again and anyone resisting the pressure to have one to keep resisting.
My bills are higher i cant get any satisfaction from my supplier and can't get rid of the smart meter. I am just one of thousands who has the same problem with my supplier.
Over and above all that, now i have one i cannot see any advantage in having one. My bills are definitely higher and the meter tells me nothing about saving electricity/gas apart from switching things off. Who needed a meter to know that.
You can see why the Germans cancelled smart meters after a few months because they quickly realised it was a huge waste of multimillions..
Thanks for the opportunity for the rant, guys..

Re Smart Meters
Like others I have had to be quite firm with energy suppliers to refuse the offer of installing these devices both in my main residence and our holiday cottage. I use the excuse for the latter that as I don't live there permanently and it is let as a 'holiday let' why would I need a smart meter? I am not there and have no control over the electricity usage,. I have also mentioned that I am perfectly capable of reading a conventional meter, obtaining the energy consumed by simple subtraction then multiply the result by the agreed rate and adding the appropriate daily charge. Why would I want a smart meter?
I get annoyed at the slightly veiled threats about their installation become obligatory soon. My response is ' until it is I DO NOT WANT ONE'

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I won't be having one until forced to do so by any future legislation. I probably don't stay with an electricity supplier long enough for them to get their act together and ask me as I'm always chasing the cheapest deal.

They're supposed to replace your meter every ten years or so anyway, I would have thought they'd just use smart ones and not tell people.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Here (Spain) the meter has to be located in a housing accessible from off the property. The meter is the property of the supplier and as such they can turn up, fit a new meter and go. They did here as I now have a smart meter, no option. Don't suppose it will be too different in the UK.
Like the Faraday cage idea though.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The wife's doctor, who is German, told ENDESA they were welcome to fit a smart meter if they could get past his dogs in the front yard. Result, no smart meter. I don't have one either, only house in the (Spanish) street not to have one. Perhaps because I am flagged as a trouble-maker.

Why do businesses seemingly increasingly assume that the total population of the world "Does Facebook"
"Check our Facebook page for our latest offers" etc
"well it's on our Facebook page" etc.
I don't

Here, and presumably in many other places, the council has gon to great lengths to provide cycle tracks and lanes.
Why don't the selfish bastards use them ?

And its not just Facebook; everyone keeps on moaning that I'm not on Wotsapp. What's wrong with phoning or sending an SMS, or in the case of our neighbour popping round to see us?

Wotsapp is no cost, so as long as you have internet is preferred to the phone or SMS certainly by me as I have to pay for them.
