Big day planned on me canal tomorrow. The intention is to take one of our boats along the recently dredged half mile from the Dirty Duck and through the rebuilt lock. Will be the first time since 1929 that a boat has navigated through that lock. Fingers crossed.
What could possibly go wrong?

The boat we are planning to use gets laid up for the winter months. Tomorrow will be its first trip since October. Not taking bets on a flat battery.

Day spent over in Kingston looking at overpriced and grotty flats for sale. Might do better in Kingston, Jamaica.
90 minutes to get back home on SouthWest train and the No 76 bus. Now collapsed at home.
Move north and see this place. Three big bedrooms, built 2 or 3 years ago by a builder for his own use; ill-health has caused him to sell up and move back to mainland Orkney.
Does it say how much land comes with it? In many ways it looks ideal, but at this point I don't even know whether Yankees can buy property there.

You'd need to ask the estate agent Lows of Orkney who should have that information.

Morning. 9.40am here. Clear at Slasherdigs with 29C.

Freetown Towers: clear windy freezing 7C
Cacoville: clear freezing 8C
Ascot Manor & (Healing?) Gardens: clear cold 21C

Took the kid out with me earlier for dawn patrol in the Cub. The brakes were released the exact moment of civil twilight. Dead clear and flew in baby's bum air. Held 4000ft (2000 above airport elev). When the rim of the sun was just about to poke over the horizon I told my son up front to pull back to 1800RPM which quietened things down a bit. We didn't do nothin' except savour those few moments. One thing I like about my son - he knows when to shut up and just take it all in.

"Is this why you love flying dad?"

"This is why I love flying Andrew."

We climbed to 5000 where I did a couple of barrel rolls then a dive with pull-up and a roll off the top. Then descended and went back to the field. Me little aviator took over while I did the radios. He did a couple of touch and go's and flew excellent circuits. AND he remembered the mag check this time before cutting the mixture!

He's 10 next month so then I'll teach him 3-pointers and how to do the 50 hourly, as well as EFATO.

We got back home where Ap had prepared a hot brekky for her two airmen.

Moonshine time! :)

Bet he doesn't beat being almost 4 miles equidistant between two airfields!

When I was due home from Akrotiri, to spend my last 6 month of service at my base of choice, a return to Marham was my 1st choice.

And I got it :-bd

When 'arriving' I took my Blue Card into Tech Manning, and the Chief Tech there looked up at his massive board and came back and said,'214 Sqdn'!

I couldn't believe my luck :-bd :-bd :-bd

After 2 years at Akrotiri, I still knew most of the guys.

Midday 33 degs, calm a little bit of Cu. Cold beer by the pool.

Agree ian, bit odd especially given the climate. Also the sea air. We used to live right by the sea on Amorgos and rust was a huge problem.

It's a bit breezy out there and a good mix of showers with sunny breaks.
Spring is on it's way.

Nice looking house Ricardian. I think we shall be looking to move sometime in the medium term.
We moved here over 30 years for the tranquillity and rural location so what did the b'tards do.
They built the A50 and A42, reopened the racetrack, turned the quiet local airfield into a night freight
operation and built massive distribution warehouses by the bucket load. Now, in the fields opposite,
they are building a relief road and just to make sure it's clagged up from day one, building 1400 houses around it.
No facilities of course to go with it.

Must go, the timer is dinging to say the bread needs to come out of the oven.

Breezy today. The lake will be filled with windsurfing enthusiasts enjoying an early Spring blast.

Never did manage to hack that. Fell off a few times, absolute bugger to get the sail back up again so retired to the beach bar and never tried again. I would probably be more successful in the lagoon here. There are a few incentives not to fall in. Got a malaka tearing up and down in a stupid speed boat here. We do about 3 kts in Squiffy Pussy III and take in all the bird and wild life. All these idiots are doing is disturbing them. Spastics. The problem is that we are the only stretch of water within 100 kms of town that is navigable at the moment.
