Our mountainside is spotted with chopper refill tanks, all plumbed to streams or local watermains. Before they were installed, you'd lose a few roof tiles when a hovering chopper would syphon off your swimming pool.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Just came across a photo from 2007 which shows our new wheelie bin being offloaded here from a council lorry. 12 years ago. The driveway is 250 yards long and they only pick up from the roadside. Bin collection is every two weeks. So in 12 years I've walked 88 statute miles just taking the bin to and from the roadside.....and that's not including the early days when it was a weekly collection. A fairly useless snippet but.....

A pretty poor indictment, on the other hand who cares where France is, other than to be able to avoid it and its 60 million soap dodging garlic breathing inhabitants.Over 90% of adults struggle with geography questions for 10-year-olds - almost a third are unable to find France on a map and nearly three-quarters are clueless about Canada's capital

River level has just exceeded the level when it 'bursts its banks' - no property flooding anticipated.

Forecast looks good. A bit breezy tomorrow and a good chance of rain but no snow.

Went to York yesterday and the river was just starting to encroach on the paths alongside. Just been chucking it down here but has been quite a warm day.

I can now recommend Edinburgh Gin. Very flavourful. Way better than the London Dry in the green bottle.

Just taken the day's garbage down to the bins. First time this year no coat/hat/scarf needed here in N Spain at night. Bit of a bind carrying a 12' spear with crosspiece half way down, but the wild boar take no prisoners.

Snow level has dropped a foot and a half in the last 24 hours, with rain and temps up at +7. Assorted acquaintances have been regaling me with tales of how they now have a swimming pool in the basement. Pleased to report that my recent works now mean I am not one of that number. Coyotes are the main menace around here, however news reports would indicate certain locals have figured out how to take them out with snowmobiles. The animal lovers are waving their arms in horror. I suspect many others are secretly pleased. I have neither seen nor heard them since January. Can now take my bin down in daylight, just, so defences not needed.

No snow here. Standard weather, blazing sunshine. So far so good with jungle bunny noise this weekend. Just one boat on the lagoon and they are serious fishermen so sitting quietly dangling their worms in the water. They need to be careful doing that
Squiffy Pussy III has her bottom on the bottom. That will be the end of boating for at least six months when hopefully Angola will send us some water. Other reasons for not going out are a mass of weed to get through to get her into deeper water and very grumpy hippos at the moment. Need to get the fuel out of the system and the engine out of the water tomorrow.

Not a lot planned on this St Paddy's Day.

Today is bright sunshine and clear blue skies.
Forty years ago today, it rained, hailed, blizzarded, froze, fogged, blew a gale and was generally, weather-wise, a right **** day. T'was the day Mrs 4ma and I tied the knot and we're still together. Thank you Linda.

Congratulations to you both, 4ms. Takes work but it's worth it.
Up at 05:45 here to watch the race. As the sun came up it was calm, smokey and/or misty. Now 09:30, howling gale has arrived from nowhere and is forecast to blow until Wednesday.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Morning all,
Been up all night trying to get Punto to stay in, he has running away on his head, a result of last Sunday's events, he gets worse.
So I didn't need to get up to watch as I was already up. I would not normally bother.
Congratulations *Stacker* and *Linda*
Off for a shower - see if I can get awake for a few hours.

Congratulations Stacker, have a smashing day.
Sun is blazing, plan to walk to Sturminster Newton (c 7 miles), drink some Tanglefoot and then have Duck for tea, washed down with Tesco Economy Red. We have bought Misty an indestructible scratch pad, destroyed and reduced to fragments within minutes.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
And congratulations from me too Mr and Mrs 4mastacker.
You were lucky to get no rain yesterday - it threw it down here.
Watched the rugby yesterday and am still confused as to how England managed
to do so badly in the second half.Plonkers.
Off to Bonny Scotland tomorrow for a few days while we still can. We have a window
of about 2 weeks before I become active on the transplant list and need to be within
4 hours of the hospital at all times. There be lots of dog walking with the cousi'ns hounds
in the day and the drinking of German beers with the cousin's husband in the evening.

One remembers seeing Gordon's in a clear bottle on 1st trip overseas.'
I treat green as the odd coloured bottle nowadays.
Boutique Gin Distilleries seems to be an 'in thing' these days, I see one has popped up close to where I lived north of Hereford.
