Warm already and a few jobs to do about the garden. Extra thirst slaking measures will have to be put in place.

Bit on the news about sound emitting devices that will have to be fitted to all electric and hybrid cars as a safety measure to warn pedestrians and cyclists of the approach of the vehicle. Will have to think what "sound" I would like the emitter to make - four Merlins/Olympus at max chat or a Deltic perhaps??
It's always my fault - SWMBO

Have taken my own advice and decided to drink heavily.
Last night our bottle of wine had drink by 2020 on it. Just managed with minutes to spare.

We drive a noisy diesel. Judging by the average pedestrian a Klaxon would be appropriate.

Bloody noise pollution.

This is my Royal Oak, I shall be sat on the seat later. But first I have volunteered to do a Tesco run with missus om, the bridge into the village is closed for a month, which makes it very quiet, but necessitates a cross country route to the shops.

Doesn't matter how loud the proposed noise is. The problem is pedestrians wandering about with earphones in/on listening to music and or making phone calls whilst on the move.

Thanks Woody, it is indeed the same Royal Oak. and a little bit of Googling led me to something about one of my late mother's ghastly relatives whose family ran it.

I have always felt very strongly that electric vehicles should emit some sort of sound. I know it shouldn't be necessary but due to the utter stupidity of some pedestrians and cyclists, it is necessary. I am against increasing ambient noise levels in general.

Morning folks. Nice day 26° with a slight breeze clear sky.

Our village in the UK had a church and a Royal Oak https://www.ramsdenvillage.co.uk/eat-drink-and-stay very expensive but excellent resturant. Recently found out that the owner has been paying his staff in cash for decades. Tax man has found out.

om15, that was indeed a good innings for G-ALXM. BEA livery when I flew in it back in 1958.

MtMM getting back normal habits so far. It's fun administering his antibiotic tablets twice a day. We do it in the dining room as we can spot the pink pills on the soft green carpet after he spits them out.

Damn shame about that. Once one gets used to not paying tax one vows never to pay such a complete waste of money ever again.

Is the owner of the restaurant in deep poo? Will the parasites force him to sell his place to rob him of back taxes?

And who was the miserable prick who dropped the beans??? :ymtongue:

The Royal Oak must be a candidate for the commonest pub name in England.
Along with Red Lion and White Swan.

This one is in Great Ayton, N. Yorkshire, the place where Jimmie Cook was educated.

It did serve Theakstons and had a good kitchen. We spent 3 nights there on our last trip to UK. The room were small as they had added bathrooms to already not too big rooms. But it was clean & functional.

That is absolutely rediculous. Make the kid save up for it. Work weekends and holidays. Bet they change their minds. A prom or two weeks sun, sea and sex.

'Reference my last about our Royal Oak. Just found out that HM Revenue has forced him into insolvency. Wonder if they sell the business as well as the building. He built it up from a closed pub to a very successful business. Wot an irriot. https://m.thegazette.co.uk/notice/3047199

No idea Capt but probably the authorities just became suspicious.

Yes he should've tinplated his arse on that one.

Damn shame though to lose one's business to a bloodsucking govt dept nonetheless.

Capt he was in the wrong, a bloody good businessman and chef but arrogant. He was separated from his delightful wife. Not sure if divorced. Feel sorry for her if they are not because she worked as hard as him to build up that business now she will get nothing

We moved into that village (Ex Mrs Ex-A) because it had two pubs. First the other one closed then the landlord of the Royal Oak hung himself. They cut him down and closed the pub. Jon built it up from nothing apart from a rope.

G'day,
Was an overnight low of 24, and 30 at present, probably hit 32 or so.
The guess for the coming week is 30 pr more every day.

Just going to skim the petals and mice off the pool then settle fo what might be a good race in Austria.

Henry had me up at 06.55 wanting out, and he did so I don't mind.
If not good race then nap 😉

Magnus, you might try butter, sometimes it works depends on the cat, some cats that have lived with us were very good, my friend Jaffa had to have daily pills, he used to open wide and swallow the pill in one go, then rewarded with king prawn, others were a nightmare.
Misty will have your fingers off at the wrist if we tried to administer medicine to her.

There are a lot of Royal Oaks around, but two of my other locals have less common names, the Old Ox and the Fiddleford Inn, both highly commended if passing through.

Heads are fine this morning thank you. :D Weather same as yesterday. At this rate, with very soggy ground, the festivities tomorrow will be 'en cas de pluie' in the long gallery or village hall.

Mr Fox has been very busy since my last visit what with new windows, all new plumbing and an air con unit. That has not been out of its box so far though. The next project is the barn reno which is at the lots of graph paper, stress calcs, crossings out and re-thinking stage. ;))) In between rain showers I've been braving the mossies and digging out borders.
