At least Atlantis reputedly had something worth looking for. We know what Skeg has to offer; why would anyone want to look. Any way, it will all come out in The Wash

Most of Cleethorpes is higher than Skeggy, which is fine because compared to Cleethorpes Skegness is a real sh*thole..

Re: Climate Disruption.
Pulling up 'An Inconvenient Truth', which captured the hearts of a generation of planet-savers, and watching it today, taking note of the dates the calamities would fall upon us, which never materialized, is good for a few laughs. Another chuckle can be had by finding clips of Hollywood luminaries like Cher and Leanardo di Caprio on the topic at the time.
Climate change was initially a scam to redistribute wealth, fomented by the UN. Then it became a social movement powered by ideologues averse to or incapable of logical assessment. So far, although I'm open to being convinced otherwise, I see climate change as the least of the threats I face. I'm much more concerned about plastics in the ocean and food chain, the US national debt, Democrats returning to power in the US, and the general ignorance of US students matriculating from American colleges without a clue.

Well, if she has another face lift she'll have either a cleft chin or a discrete little van Dyke beard.

A strange, wavy jet stream is blasting Europe with heat. Scientists say this could be the 'new normal.'
Global warming is crimping the ribbon of air that controls weather systems in the Northern Hemisphere, intensifying extreme weather around the world.
The new normal?

Thanks to John for this. I don't perceive this as some kind of forecast from Greenland tree rings, but our new reality. Aviators of heavies in the Northern Hemisphere would be well familiar with "jet streams". I suspect it is too late to think about causes, and what we could have done about it. Now we just have to learn to live with it.

In order of importance for me it's:
1. US Debt. I'm paid in USD and a crash would hurt a lot.
2. The risk of Dems publically appearing as sane between now and Nov 2020
3. Dems getting into power 2020
4. Boris unable to secure a no deal Brexit
5. British socialists gaining both Houses with Corbyn installed as PM
.

.
6. Plastic
'Climate change' isn't a concern to me whatsoever. In fact in N Thailand we've had quite a dry Wet so far this year but it'll be normal next year. If the seasons remained constant annually then I'd have to look at what the damn Sun is doing.
AFAIK Ben global redistribution of Wealth is still the primary aim of the commies, albeit accompanied with left wing satisfaction that GW has long morphed into a religion than Science with the general Unwashed. By using 'useful idiots' like AOC for example it can now be employed to assist in the economic ruin of capitalist countries.

Re: Climate Disruption.
I was driving across town last night hopping to be a fast smooth drive. It didn't turn that way: practically every traffic light turned red as I approached requiring an additional waste of fuel to start moving again. Obviously this start and stop works wonder for the State coffers collecting more revenue. If you add the potholes additional opportunities to increase emissions are generated. But all those are trivial for activists who just suggest increasing taxes.
Re: Climate Disruption.
Anyone who is not disturbed at the increasing instability of our meteorological mechanisms is just not paying attention.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

I have been told that Trump has the US debt is all under control.

Slash, here's a little something to chew on as far as emissions are concerned. It concerns itself with Canada's contribution, but mentions other countries for comparison.Slasher wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 5:36 amIn order of importance for me it's:

A few climate-change headscratchers...
Climate Change Hypocrisy
South Africa, India, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan and China, all signatories to the Paris climate accord, are building a combined 1,800 new coal-fired power plants. Coal plants emit twice as much CO2 as natural gas plants. Meanwhile, international environmental groups campaign against sending Canadian LNG to those countries. And here at home, the Trudeau Liberals have just introduced a tax specifically designed to discourage the building of new cleaner-burning gas-fired power plants as they continue to pursue the fantasy that wind and solar power will keep the lights on. Good luck with that. After hundreds of billions of dollars spent, wind and solar contribute just two percent of global energy supply. And that's only when the wind is blowing, and the sun is shining.

Re: Climate Disruption.
The BBC have just banged on about Cambridge being the hottest place in the UK
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-49157898
The Met Office stopped using the Cambridge Botanical Gardens measurements for the Central England Temperature series 88 years ago because the Urban Heat Island effect was already noticeable.
See page 321
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/had ... ilyCET.pdf
The population of Cambridge has doubled since 1931, and on the so-called record day, the wind was from the SE over a large built-up area that wasn't there in 1931.
How dishonest can they get?
Well, we know they love a challenge at Auntie

Re: Climate Disruption.
An honest question and serious question: we have the same questions about lignite like OFSO mentions on the Germany thread. How efficient are/can be the filters on the fossil fuel power plants regarding CO2?

Re: Climate Disruption.
They are about 80% efficient in removing the CO2. They reduce energy efficiency by 11% measured against total output, but it's really 40% measured against useful electrical output. In other words, you need to build 5 power plants with CO2 scrubbers to get the same electrical output as 3 plants without. And of course India and China just say "F#ck that".
I recommend thinking about it at the most basic level - fossil fuels are produced by the plant absorbing CO2 and sunlight. You aren't going to get the energy back out again without releasing a lot of CO2. The best solution is to find another power source, or better still USE LESS ENERGY.
There are a huge number of ways that humans can reduce energy usage by large margins, but all of them involve a lot of companies making a lot less money, and politicians and bureaucrats admitting they have entirely screwed up - not going to happen.

Re: Climate Disruption.
Anyone remember the picture of the team of Greenland huskies trotting through water, that was presented as proof positive that Greenland would soon be .. well, Green? The real story is a little more mundane.
Melting ice more hype than global crisis.

Re: Climate Disruption.
Fox I remember yonks ago in Oz when some Green bloke (well dressed) authorised by the local council to go door knocking to advise one's "carbon footprint". I hated greenies ever since the Franklin Dam thing in Tassy. I was staying at a mate's place in Melbourne at the time. He wasn't a prick nor a ponytailed long hair dope-smoking Green idiot dressed in rags so he let him in.
He looked around the house ticking and writing stuff. When he was done he said (IIRC):
Kitchen gas stove. Causes global warming.
Incandescent light bulbs. Causes global warming.
Lounge room wood burner (enclosed). Causes global warming and kills trees.
Gas hot water. Causes global warming.
Two car family. Causes more global warming than one.
Leaving Windows desktop in standby. Causes global warming.
And the coop de grace: standby light on TV. Causes global warming!
Mate argued the following:
GF uses gas in the kitchen as it's much easier to control cooking temp than electric.
Incandescent was cheaper than the new LEDs (at the time)
Wood burner is way less expensive than electric.
Hot water (220L tank outside) heated by gas way cheaper than electric.
Both he and his GF takes a car to work. He at Tullamarine she in Moorabbin.
Desktop needed in standby as the bootup time takes far too long.
He asked if the guy was kidding about the telly standby light. He wasn't. So he said if his standby light causes a massive cyclone in Melbourne he'll turn his telly off.
He also asked if everyone stopped burning stuff and went electric wouldn't that increase loads on Yallourn power station et al and cause them to burn more coal?
He didn't have a direct answer to that. All he said was carbon usage alleviation starts at home. Since he didn't appear to be a left wing ratbag we politely let him leave instead of booting his arse out the door.
It struck us he was well spoken, well dressed and appeared to have intelligence above that of a typical ALP voter. We wondered why he got into this ***** racket instead of something more befitting a civilised white collar worker. Maybe a part timer for extra cash as they went visiting on weekends apparently.

The super rich have been arriving in Sicily for a conference on Climate Change. I wonder what the silicone footprint of these two beauties is.
A-listers arrive in private jets, mega yachts for climate confab.

The same argument goes for Summits held at Bali, Paris, Rio etc.
