Windows10 Home Network question
Windows10 Home Network question
For the gurus:
I have 3 machines linked - a desktop, and 2 laptops, all W10. Desktop is on homeplug to router, laptops wireless. The network has been fine for a while, but it seems that every time ****Windows updates, it throws the network off at some point or other.
Here's the problem this time. Both laptops can 'see' each other and the desktop and access all. Desktop can only 'see' and access 1 laptop AND it does not appear on its own network, which is wrong. All machines have the same network settings. The network is 'private'. I know the desktop can access the other laptop since I can sync a regular file update from desktop to that laptop using 'FreeFileSync'.
Extensive gargling has not produced a fix.

Re: Windows10 Home Network question
Now why didn't I think of that? (Still got the DVD....)
Re: Windows10 Home Network question
Network Reset has now managed to show the desktop in its Network map! On we go. Resisting re-installing W3.1, Fox.

Fear not!
Windows will be up with an update to fix the update.

Re: Windows10 Home Network question
Hmm. Reassuring indeed. I have now uninstalled the recent W10 update and things are better - so far.....

Re: Windows10 Home Network question
I THINK I have discovered the secret, in case anyone else is finding the same. It seems that M$ in there 'wisdom' decided to annul SMB Client after W10 1803. It does indeed have security risks, but KILLS my home network if not there.
Re-installing the client returns full home network access. BUT I understand that M$ (again, in their 'wisdom') 'remove it again after 15 days which probably accounts for the random network issues I have had. Anyway, it is back 'in' again and I have started the clock.

Re: Windows10 Home Network question
Time to resurrect this with a new issue!
I have treated Mrs B to a 'new' recon W10 laptop. All well except I cannot access it on the network, because it keeps on asking for 'credentials'. All network settings are correct; there are NO web or Windows credentials set.
Any ideas how I get rid of the pest? (I know, Linux, but I was hoping......)

This any use?
I have had similar, and found Disabling password protected sharing fixed it.

Re: Windows10 Home Network question
Thanks, Fox, passwords were disabled. I'll work through the other items, though, some of which are new to me.
