Children's Climate protests.
Re: Children's Climate protests.
I remember the anti-nuclear brigade in Oz as a bunch of useless bums and dope-smoking hippies who were useful idiots for the Left’s objective of unilateral disarmament during the late 70s and early 80s. This was not only supported by the regular garden variety Marxists like John Halfpenny of the Amalgamated Metal Workers Union but also your Maoists such as Norman Gallagher of the Builders Labourers Federation - and all with ACTU support. Although relatively young at the time it wasn’t hard for me and a few others my age to figure out they were all a bunch of commie ****q and ****.
They exist now as Greenies and ALP vermin. And they’re all still commie ****q and ****.

Re: Children's Climate protests.
We've had warnings and predictions of imminent global environmental catastrophe my entire lifetime, all of them predicting within a few years everything will fall apart. None of those predictions have ever come to pass, and in fact, the environment around where I live has never been cleaner, and I've noticed no warming, no water level rise, no unusual drought or frequency of storms, yet I'm implored to commit the entire output of our US economy to stop all the change?
These kids are indoctrinated in so many ways, chief among them is the belief that the world is doomed by climate change and we don't have time to spare. My conclusion is that our climate is almost totally dependent on the Sun, and today there's not much we can do about that. The human impact on that is negligible. I'd rather focus our efforts on cleaning up the detritus we create, which does impact the environment, than stamping out the current level of carbon emissions, which actually enhance the growth of flora, a benefit, which don't.

I would suggest to the children protesting - and their teachers - who consider that global warming is man-made that they check the records of the increasing surface temperature of the planet Mars over the past three decades. And then try to explain that away as man-made.

If each of those children only bought one more pair of blue jeans each between now and 2030, the waters of the Aral Sea might be allowed to rejuvenate.
It's high time the youth of today took upon itself some transactional trouble for the tomorrow of themselves rather than relying on a misconceived self entitlement that at best delays the awareness of the arrival of dreadful reality.

Hyde Park after the Climate Change eco rally

My children lectured me on climate change last night. This morning I found all the lights left on.

That's in wild contrast to the scenes after MAGA/Trump rallies and Pro Life events, where participants tend to clean up after themselves. Is that ironic?

Re: Children's Climate protests.
I went to a Motorcycle Action Group rally in Hyde Park back in the 1980s, 25,000 bikers, and the place was spotless when we we left. We picked up everyone else's litter.
I think it's both hypocritical, and being part of the problem rather than the solution, not ironic.

Your Hyde Park or our Hyde Park? Did ER really tidy it all up after the marijuana rally in April?

Ah, more than one Hyde Park!
My mistake.
I have, however, also seen kids discussing climate change and leaving the lights on afterwards. I've also had them disappointed that there was nothing in my recycling bin, despite me pointing out that's because I hadn't cycled anything.

At least here they have the sensibility of not closing a major road and increase the fuel consumption. To be honest I did not check how dirty their meeting place was the event.
Re: Children's Climate protests.
Apparently the Hyde Park photo isn’t the aftermath of a greenie gathering.
Re: Children's Climate protests.
Teaching children how to go on strike is a huge benefit for their future under a Corbyn Government, they will, at an early age, become familiar with the socialist culture of complaint.
Re: Children's Climate protests.
When I went to school we learnt the three Rs :
Reading, riting, rithmetic. We had a choice of languages we could learn. Upon my mother's insistence and at the age of about 8 I didn't have much say, I chose Frog, totally useless and an ugly woofter sounding language with its literature.
I learnt Kraut, which I enjoyed and has been useful to me, and Russian, most of which I have forgotten.
I did geography, which I loved, and history which I hated because of the dreadful teacher.
We were forced to kick a ball around a muddy field in the winter and hit a hard red ball with a bat of some kind in the summer while playing at silly positions.
We did PE which I hated and subsequently realised that the PE teacher (and most of our teachers) were either perverts of sadists.
What we didn't have was nonsense like political science, psychology, and social studies.
Home economics and cooking were for the girlies, which was stupid as men could benefit from those subjects.
Listening to Gippo Corbin spouting drivel on the Andrew Marr show. He has said that aviation is the greatest cause of carbon emission, more than shipping. What a prize w@anker he is. It does worry me that some people find him credible.

Cape. Me too. You’re therefore not that much older than me.
We did do Social Studies in late primary school but that was very closely aligned with Geography. I took the latter in high school but only for the first 3 years. Wanted to know where everything was.
Home Ec and Cooking were for the girls. No guys did it fearing being branded as poofters. As such they automatically became shelter shed fodder.
Took Frog for 6 years at high school thinking I could benefit from it. After a few visits to Paris (nightstops with SQ early 1990) I only spoke English to ‘em out of spite. Same in Tooloose (2004) during the 320 course...’cept for Mme Brigette Painoir but that’s another story!
I started it up again with our Moroccan cabin crew in the Gulf as it was easier for them to understand me morer with my Oz accent.

Homo Ec properly taught can offer a great assistance at saving money on grocery shopping. Arguably it is under valued subject much more useful than other ones like dead languages.Slasher wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 8:48 am

Regarding Moroccan ladies arguably they are the best in the region. One of them did perform the most memorable safety demo I have ever seen. Slasher I guess you understand why.
On the subject now: I don't understand why GT has more credibility than scientists and if the kids understand what THEY need to make.

I wonder if it is because she looks like a 12 year old child prodigy rather that the average 16 year old.

Re: Children's Climate protests.
We did 'RE in primary. Might have been a bit better if they had tied it into geography, history and sociology as that really is all JC was about. Would have tied in nicely to Roman Britain, Anglo Saxons and so on.
Tie it in to Eng Lit and Shakespeare diets out the kings and queens.
Instead it was all little bits with no coherence. One English Lit book we had concerned prisoners: Cassanova, American Civil War, Boer War and WW1. Wish I still had that book. Another was Norse Legends.

Re: Children's Climate protests.
I had RE lessons from Robert Runcie. He was useless; never gave a proper answer. I think they got rid of him, and his next job was slumming it as Archbishop of Canterbury. Some people have no pride.
