No, my main point was why do we import foreign stuff from prodigious distances to compete with local produce? Even more stupid, why do we but it?
Just guessing. Perhaps it's part of a bigger trade/political deal. Anyway, American strawberries can't taste any worse than the forced specimens from North Africa that are on sale during the winter months.

In response to the news that Emily Thornberry described the Lib Dems as “like the Taliban” over their new revoke Article 50 Brexit policy, the former Lib Dem leader responded:

“Come on Emily, if we really were like a Middle East terrorist group, don’t you think Jeremy would’ve invited us to a conference fringe meeting before now?”

Perhaps it's part of a bigger trade/political deal.
I can buy political but how do you persuade a retailer to stock them? I suppose by undercutting the local product to that there is a profit advantage. And you sell them by undercutting the local producer as you have a larger profit in the first case.

Remember the "I'm backing Britain" campaign, 60s?

If import prices rocket we may restore competitive advantage for home grown and home produced.

Corbyn ‘terrified’ of becoming prime minister, senior Labour figure claim
Not half as terrified as I am that he might become PM.

As if things weren’t confusing enough already, maybe Boris should appeal to the European Courts :ymdevil:

The very real danger is that we all know what happens when a head of government has got his/her back to the wall. Especially when they have a largely unoccupied military lounging around at vast public expense.

dePiffle sees himself as the embodiment of both Pericles and Churchill.

Which country do you think that he thinks that both of those two guys would want to spank right now?

'Orf wiv' 'is 'ed, I say.

I guess he will 'obey' the ruling and then attempt to prorogue parliament again. Let's hope HMQ says 'Naff 'orf, BoJo'.

Personally, I can see a lot of positives with the imposition of martial law and putting a heap of lefties up against the wall with a blindfold on. Oh, and climate alarmists also; and people that piss me off on the roads; and .......

UP, 'largely' applies to a large part of a very small army.

Siseman, you make the frequent assumption that Army=conservative.

It might be true of a significant number of the old officer corps but not necessarily the rank and file. Indeed the Army is seeking to expel any with extreme far right views.

Too late the Lady cried.

I don't subscribe to an establishment stich up, Johnson did the wrong thing, full stop. He made it easy for his enemies to clobber him because he is a blundering clown, meanwhile the remain lot are talking to the EU to make sure that no acceptable deal will be forthcoming and we may stay in.
A general election may be the only solution to this mess, I would see the only courser of action is to revoke article 50, hold an election, if you wish to remain vote for the Dental Hygienist, if you want to leave vote for Nigel, both the Tories and Labour have really made them selves unelectable with this.

Not small enough, clearly.

They're not needed to garrison Norn Irn.

They're not needed to garrison conquered Germany.

Theyr'e not needed to garrison Hong Kong, and let's not talk about their feeble attempt to garrison Singapore.

The British Army's feeble attempt to garrison the British Sector of occupied Iraq was a dismal failure.

The British Army's feeble attempt to garrison the British Sector of occupied Afghanistan was a dismal failure.

We need a few of 'em to show London tourists how Drill is done, and a few in the Falklands to keep the sheep nervous, but that's all.
