Re: More Boeing Bad News
In one of the articles inserted here there is a mention that the model must require no additional training for the pilots. Is there a limitation on how Boeing must proceed avoiding any changes impacting pilot formation and only do airframe changes installed on the factory?
Also is there a deadline to RTF before the plug is pulled?

Boeing still trying to hide internal messaging.

A bad day is still a good day to bury even worse news.A new batch of messages between Boeing Co. employees on the development of the 737 Max paints a “very disturbing picture” of concerns about the plane, according to an aide to a House committee.
The documents were turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration on Monday, the agency said in a statement. The disclosure came the same day that Boeing ousted its chief executive officer.

Re: More Boeing Bad News
A random thought - what about pilot currency? It is now obvious that the aircraft they were rated on is not what they thought it was. It will also be obvious that the new Max will be different again.
Do they need type rating on a new Max?
And what are those pilots flying now?

Pretty soon, this will be getting serious!Forkner expressed concern that the flight-control feature later implicated in the crashes was “running rampant”

Re: More Boeing Bad News
Norwegian MAX pilots are out of job. I understand other pilots fly the NG onez their company has.
Regarding currency, I understand their currency is part of the RTF project like any AD on the non-delivered aircraft.

Re: More Boeing Bad News
Not sure why the 'Max' pilots cannot fly the NG since the big deal was a single type?
Re: More Boeing Bad News
Probably not enough seats.
Re: More Boeing Bad News
Of course, but currency?
Re: More Boeing Bad News
3 T/O & L's in last 90 days on type = Current.

Re: More Boeing Bad News
Friend of mine a 737 pilot could fly a classic in the morning and an NG in the afternoon. Why the MAX would require a different recency?

Re: More Boeing Bad News
No my question related to the 'new' Max. It is self-evident that the Max and NG are different types. It is as likely that the nMax will be different from the Max. That will bring into question whether there can be a direct read across?
If that is the case, all the non-current pilots would need conversion flights c would they not?

Re: More Boeing Bad News
PN, my understanding is that Boeing will design a solution which will be submitted initially to the FAA and to the other authorities. Once it is approved they will be an AD for the aircraft already in service with the airlines (implemented by the airlines and paid for by Boeing?) and Boeing will carry on any changes necessary on the MAX built and not delivered. If the change requires any training Boeing will outline what is required and training providers will do so. However if the aviation authorities consider the changes enough to create a different type rating then it will be decided what the difference training will be - I guess a good example may be the difference in training between and A320 and an A350.
I am not sure I answered your question though.

RiS:
A320 and A330 are different types. A318/319/320/321 and NEOs share a type. I think A350 is under A330 type.

Re: More Boeing Bad News
RiS, yes I think that does with costs for retraining/recertification rightly charged to Boeing as the customers have already paid for training, or been told training was unnecessary. Glad I don't have shares in Boeing.
And a previously mentioned, don't forget the passengers. We always avoided Thomas Cook and tried to ensure we got the 787. Would passengers with a choice of types chose the non-Max or non-Boeing airline? And don't forget the pickle fork problem.

Re: More Boeing Bad News
I guess the use of currency is wrong - recency is what I should have used.
I understand that single aisle Airbus models have a common rating while the A330/340/350 have another rating. I vividly remember in a distant past Airbus saying crews would be able to fly both single and double aisles models. What I was thinking is the Cross Crew Qualification notion of the Airbus - where those who have been trained to fly one group of aircraft learn the difference to fly the others so I thought about 737 rated crews would only taught the difference and fly the nMAX as well -CCQ Boeing style. Obviously some airlines wouldn't like it but better than running out of aircraft.
PN I am still unsure how PAX would react - some PR professionals are very good at their job - they even persuade people uncontrolled immigration is good for the tax payers of the invading country. I guess the pickle fork problem is already forgotten.

RiS, in your last, a good example of burying a heap of woe under a more easily remedied problem?

Probably although I am not sure which one is worst, the MCAS (which can kill only under specific circumstances) or the pickle fork (which hasn't turn ugly - so far).
