Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Didn't BEA try something like that a million years ago ? UK Flights from Manchester, Glasgow and maybe other locations to London (?) Don't think you paid at the door, but certainly you just turned up and paid at the time. I think that they even had a spare aircraft and crew on standby in case the scheduled one filled up and there were still hopeful customers ?Why can't you just buy a ticket from the conductor at the door when you get on the aircraft? It seems much easier.
And I think Freddie Laker tried something similar, even called it Airbus I think ?
Memory ?
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Back in the '70s you could rock up at the airport and buy a cheaper-than-usual "standby ticket." if there was a vacant seat 10 minutes before a flight, first person in line got it. Staff, of course, usually knew which flights would have vacancies, but weren't supposed to tell prospective pax. They usually did, though sometimes in a veiled way.

Terminal 3 LHR, spent 40 minutes waiting for a vacant stand this morning after arriving 4 minutes early, so not off schedule which I know can cause problems, good job I knew the taxi driver as he didn’t charge me waiting time, always give him a good tip
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Planned Obsolescence ? Grrrr.. For some time now I have got used to using a dental waterblaster, a Water Pik in polite language. The present one is a Poseidon, but the re-chargeable Lithium battery is clearly failing to hold its charge, needing an 8 hour charging regime every couple of days now, instead of lasting nearlt two weeks,as heretofore.
But .... the battery is clearly irreplaceable, being totally encased in hard plastic with no visible screws to enable an exploratory disassemble.

Maybe it is necessary to maintain its waterproofness.

ExSp, is it Philips? How old?
Always worth contacting Philips as I got a replacement for a dicky toothbrush. Also I bought a toothbrush recently off their website at a huge discount.
I have dismantled a toothbrush in the vague hope of changing the battery. I prised the base cap off and got the gizzards out. Sure enough there was rust inside. IIRC there were two AAA batteries but they are soldered in place and for some reason I gave up at that point.

ExSp, This could be a way of spending an afternoon burning yourself with a soldering iron and losing tiny screws in the process?
https://ionicindustries.com/repair-guid ... ent-guide/
Don’t know exactly what type you’ve got and whether you live in a place to which such spares can be mailed, but there is hope out there.
One drawback is that if the device is old enough, the motor itself may be life-expired and the battery replacement might not solve the problem or possibly only solve it for a short while? Good luck, I also object to dumping kit if I suspect it’s repairable!

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
BM, sadly more stuff now is made as destroy to open.
Years ago my SAAB wiper motor went TU. I had to drill out to rivets and naturally the whole thing collapsed in a heap of bits. I cleaned it, reassembled it like a jig saw puzzle, replaced the top and secured it using locking wire and araldite. It was still working when I sold it a few years later. Ditto the wiper arm. I was able to get it off the steering wheel, same process, again locking wire and araldite.
Now would dare to try.

There’s life in the old dog yet! ‘Twas but a simple google search but I understand some of our number can have difficulty accessing all or part of the wibbly webbly wobbly and then getting parts & kit imported into whatever exotic country they’ve applied the ultimate parking brake.
The ultimate parking brake location-for aged aviator types? There’s a whole new thread waiting for exploitation?

Well, I have a Plusnet PVR which failed a year or so again and was replaced by PN but being able to change the hard drive would be a bonus.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The old IDE drives are rare as hens' teeth but you might be able to locate a SATA drive depending on what's fitted. Search for UK HDD suppliers and you may strike it lucky? The forum "Digitalspy" had considerable information some time ago which helped me to revive a dead Digifusion box and to replace the 3.5" drive with a laptop 2.5" drive and I moved the fan to cool the hottest of the circuit board chipsets.
The next problem is if you want to 'flash' the firmware to make the beast work in video mode as opposed to PC mode. There was a source for firmware which I was able to load into the repaired machine via the 'Hyprtrm' steam-powered convention lurking in the bowels of the older Windows programs.
Then after a while one sadly gives up and off to the shop for a complete replacement unit!
Re the electric toothbrush fixes I was able to send off my sophisticated Bluetooth (NPI!) enabled Braun OralB 5000 to a UK 'fixer' for about £30 and they fitted new batteries for me. I may still have the link on another computer if anyone needs that service.
P S Don't get the impression I'm computer savvy, far from it!

Aaaah halcyon days!! Rock up at BFS Aldergrove when I wuz a yoof, too long ago, purchase young person's off-peak standby ticket to LHR for a whopping £3.00 and fill the empty seats which would otherwise have remained empty. Long before the phrases "revenue maximisation/revenue yield" had oozed out from the USA business schools.

No, Poseidon, whoever they are, the only name visible and I threw the "how to do it" leaflet away a long time ago, ( might have had some clue as to the actual manufacturer ) bought in the USA about 5 years back, can only re-charge in the bathroom shaver socket adapter that accepts 110 volt stuff.
No sweat, one of our local Walmart clones will be having a 50% off everything sale to celebrate Anzac Day next month, sure I will be able to find an affordable replacement.
