Coronabollocks..
As we watch our self inflicted descent into economic disaster, courtesy of the latest gift from China, does it never occur to anyone to panic a bit less?
I wouldn't like to sound harsh, but the ever so slightly early demise of a tiny fraction of our most wrinkled is surely preferable to wrecking half the first world economy?
Should we panic a bit more- or heaven forfend, a bit less?
Personally, zero fux given here, but utterly baffled at the knots we are tieing ourselves in, for a bug that seems to kill only the weakest 1%, that were probably on their way out soon anyway.
What a shower of wankers we have become!

Re: Coronabollocks..
I am currently have lunch with a doctor friend from Germany and two nurses friends from the hospital that handled the majority of the nation's cases of beer virus. I feel safe and happy.
Obviously I keep arguing about we are all going to die.

I imagine it depends on attitude of mind and how far along you are on the journey of life.
Are we each unique or are we chips of the old block? Every clinician asks if there is any history of . . .?
For a start, I have very little knowledge of my family let alone its history. On my maternal side my grand mother died 103 years ago, her husband 63 years ago. Paternally both died about 84 years ago. Parents, both heavy smokers about 40-50 years ago. OTOH my 18th C go both lived to 80+, their son to 90+.

Cape, good list. Mrs PN almost cancelled a Caribbean cruise (lot more money at stake than the one we just cancelled) through zika virus. Mind you, I have a complete set of mozzie proof clothing even down to underpants. Don't laugh, they are excellent underpants.

Cape.
Excellent post, but I think you missed out H1N1!
It takes more than some poxy chink-killing lergy to polish off the British. Otherwise, we'd be long gone!

Reassuring to see that in the middle of civilisation’s meltdown it’s good to know the entrepreneurs are still out there trying to scratch a living;

If you think finding soap in a French supermarket is hard, try finding deodorant.
Re: Coronabollocks..
The 1918 Flu epidemic - aka The Spanish Flu, originated in the US at a US army camp. I don't think where the viruses choose to mutate has a great deal of relevance other than to portray the affectation of the poster. I would far rather the Chinese than those from the Indian subcontinent, Africa or the mixed races of the Middle East

The excellent list of things that were supposed to kill us left off:
Ronald Reagan
George W. Bush
Margaret Thatcher
Global warming by now was supposed to have done it's work.

Re 1918 flu pandemic ........
......started in holding camps for wounded soldiers in NW. FrAnce. They were allowed to keep chickens to supplement their rations.
As the war was running down it got to POW camps in Germany where my uncle said he saw apparently well men at breakfast drop dead mid morning. He walked out of his camp heading west through the retreating Germans and the advancing allies and eventually back to his regiment at Fort George near Inverness. Hardy little bugger he was aged 18!
Eventually as the troops started to return home carrying the bug the disease spread most along railway routes in the U S and in Southern Africa.

Re: Coronabollocks..
Wiki says that in 2015 there were 6500 deaths from chickenpox world-wide. We all had it as children. Anyone here die as a child from chickenpox ?

Re: Coronabollocks..
Never caught it as a child. Caught it in my 30's and was really ill.
Both chicken pox and measles are potentially serious illnesses in one's dotage.
