Re: Coronabollocks..
We've just come out of our Summer, with some quite hot days still around. People still contracting Covid-19 and dying. Earlier in the week we had a 33 degC top on one day. Don't think all the people previously tested positive suddenly got better. Plus don't think all these cruise ships full of sickos have spent all their time in the Antarctic somehow.

Re: Coronabollocks..
We're still in the process of gathering knowledge about this disease so as to figure out it's properties and how to combat them. Warm climes seem to be beneficial in reducing its contagiousness. Sunlight seems to kill the virus. Certain pharmaceuticals seem to mitigate its effects. It's true that more and more people are dying today, but science and industry are being aggressively applied to fight the devastating impact on all of us. At some point in the not too distant future the corner will be turned, humanity will survive, and we can all once again go about our daily lives. There is reason for that hope. Along the way there will be setbacks but the end of the world is not nigh.
My strategy is to sit on a beach in Mexico, drinking a margarita served by a waiter who keeps his distance, soaking up sunlight, and returning home to gather with friends, uninfected, observing the same regime of cautious exposure and partaking of the joys of life in paradise.

AK, we have two choices, over react or get it right. We don't know what we need to do to get it right therefore . . .

Re: Coronabollocks..
Pontious.
As Ronald Reagan used to say...
"Don't just do something- stand there!"
It's easy to control Coronabollocks if you lock the entire World up.
Here another couple of suggestions along the same lines, of which I'm sure you will approve?
Reduce car accident deaths to zero overnight. Ban car driving.
Improve our air safety record to "perfect"- leave all aircraft on the ground...
I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.
In Hitchens vid, he mentions about 1600 check out each day in the UK. About 460 have croaked due to Coronabollocks, so over a couple of weeks about 32 a day of the 1600 are credited to CBollocks.
And how many of them were about to take their leave soon anyway? CBollocks probably just finished them off.
Anyway, let's improve our maritime safety record too, ban ships....

Re: Coronabollocks..
Many years ago, the Transport and Road Research Laboratory carried out several surveys into road safety.
One concluded that risk of severe injury or death was generally proportional to the speed of the vehicles involved - logical.
Another concluded that the risk of having a collision was generally proportional to the length of time spent driving (again, logical, but the perspicacious of you might see where this is going).
To reduce the risk of a collision, drive as quickly as possible, thereby reducing the time spent travelling (and reduce the risk of a collision).
However, to have zero casualties, reduce vehicle speeds to zero.
Note:- by using the term 'generally proportional' I am avoiding whether 'directly' meaning linear or quadratic or whatever.

Re: Coronabollocks..
This map would seem to suggest the opposite. Colder climes have not seen fit to declare a state of emergency. UK, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, etc
As a practising amateur epidemiologist "The Mediterranean Diet" wouldn't appear to be a positive thing. Can't see NYC's data as supporting this though. Perhaps more the temperament, us cold blooded types doen't get too carried away.

Perhaps it's a bracket of temperatures in which the virus, like porridge, thrives, not too warm, not too cold.

The UK daily rate is 1,369. It was said today that 2/3 of the CV deaths would have been in that 1,369.

Re: Coronabollocks..
Such logic is flawed. In principle to have an safety record, aircraft have to fly. All aircraft on the ground implies nothing to record and is therefore irrelevant to a record of air safety. Grounding one aircraft type (e.g. the Max) is relevant as the record continues to note the hours/miles flown safely by other aircraft.
Similar to the joke about the chap on the train opposite an alcoholic looking bloke with a large glass of wine who keeps on tearing up pieces of paper. When asked by the sober man why he is tearing paper the bibulous one replies "to keep the pink elephants away" to which the other chap says "but there aren't any pink elephants" to which the piss artist says triumphantly. "Effective isn't it"!

Re: Coronabollocks..
Yes... I believe that by the time this has outbreak is over it might, sadly, have sunk in, perhaps tragically, for many others...
4000 beds and 2 morgues...
In the same way that many seemingly intelligent people can't grasp compound interest, others can't grasp an exponential growth in numbers...
People like Hitchens are well educated but he studied philosophy and politics and appears not to understand the hard, cruel beauty of pure numbers, like many others of his babbling caste...

Re: Coronabollocks..
The press are hyping the living ***** out of this!
The verdict will have to wait until after it's all over, and I'd think a public enquiry will be held to "learn lessons".
It's a huge panicky overreaction, with the Worlds Governments worried that they might be seen in a poor light if they don't join right in with ever more extreme measures.
Old people die.
Influenza epidemics are common in Winter.
People are dieing WITH Coronabollocks, not FROM it.
The banks as usual, are profiteering from it- in the U.K. At least, meanwhile the economy is going down the ****.
People need to grow up and accept their own, and others mortality- we're all getting it in the long term.
This panic is a function of our pussy, snowflake mentality.
