Coronabollocks..
Re: Coronabollocks..
I believe that the UK borders are still open to those wishing to return from infected regions without being checked for infection.

It may be a little early to be claiming victory for the USA in the Covid-19 numbers game. While New York may see the light at the end of the tunnel they are like Lombardy in Italy there's still the rest of the USA to think about.Seenenough wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 4:02 pmToday's Worldometer Covid death numbers, per million of population specific to each countries gross population are.
Germany- 39,USA-74,UK-178.
The total number of US Covid deaths is 24500 and the total number of Covid deaths in the UK is 12100 which is near half the number of US deaths.Even a 4th grader can work that one out.
It is plainly obvious the rate of death in the UK is way higher than both those of Germany and the USA.
Professor, you can put lipstick on a pig but it will still remain a pig none the less.
I hope it won't come to it but there's still a while to go before that fat lady steps on stage.

True Gob.
The UK is doing badly.
Whatever happens, herd immunity will be achieved.
Some things we have control over, but not this.
Wisdom is knowing what we control, and what we don't.

You know Professor, I spent nearly 20 years of my life in and around Lloyd's both initially as a Coverholder and and then later on ,after waiting out some gardening leave, as a Consultant. Our Consulting Partnership offered the services of risk assessment, underwriting consultancy ,Coverholder management and auditing to several of the Syndicates. My Partner in the consultancy was an Actuary.
We also consulted with several Motor Manufacturers and assisted them to understand what needed to be considered ,from an insurance point of view ,when designing and marketing their cars and trucks.
You know it must have been a pure fluke and luck that we were able to produce profitable results not only for our Clients but also ourselves.

Jet,I do not think I was claiming a victory as I am fully aware that the numbers of deaths as a result of Covid are constantly changing. You and the Guardian noticed that the death rate in the UK is quite high when measured against Ireland and I think you then compared it to Germany which I have also noticed has a substantially lower rate of death than most other European Countries..
My point in previous postings on this thread was that the USA is not doing quite as badly, at this point in time, as many would have us believe and as you correctly observed Germany's low rate of death is for now, better than that of the USA.

From the NY Times
The Trump administration has reached an agreement in principle with major airline companies over the terms of a $25 billion bailout to prop up an industry that has been hobbled by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Treasury Department said that Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, SkyWest Airlines and Southwest Airlines will be participating in the payroll support program, which was created as part of the economic stabilization package that Congress passed last month.

Not bollocks but a chap with a lot of balls!
https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... ack-gardenA 99-year-old war veteran has raised more than £4m for the NHS by aiming to walk 100 lengths of his back garden before his 100th birthday.
Capt Tom Moore, from Keighley in Yorkshire, initially planned to raise £1,000 through the challenge.
However, after launching his campaign on 8 April and raising £70,000 in just 24 hours, he extended his fundraiser and hit £1m on Tuesday morning. By 3.30pm he reached £2m, and passed £3m early in the evening.
“It’s almost unbelievable isn’t it?,” Moore told the BBC. “But when you think who it’s for, and they’re all so brave … I think they deserve every penny of it.”
He is walking 10 laps of the garden a day with the help of his walking aid, and had hoped to hit 100 laps in time for his birthday on 30 April – but according to his daughter, Hannah, he is likely to reach his goal on Thursday.

Reported on BBC Radio 4 that he has now raised £5 million. Never let it be said that the majority of Brits don't support the brave folk of the NHS and a decent, unselfish old man.TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:11 amNot bollocks but a chap with a lot of balls!

I would think it's more respect for his military credential, fidelity to his garden, and his lifelong contribution to UK society, a love all too often unrequited, that strikes a bell with the likes of me.
To Captain Moore, a toast of utmost respect. Also to all the medical workers around the world, at all levels, trying to suppress the Chinese virus.

His former rank of Capt. should only be used if he was in the cavalry, and he is currently employed with horses.
The usual case to quote as an example is Capt. Mark Phillips!

A local character, who managed the town hotel in the years after the War (and went on to lead the campaign for an indoor swimming pool) always styled himself as Captain Gardner.

I believe it is true that of that rank, only Captains retain their rank, Lt RN and Flt Lt RAF are Mr.

Retired and Former Army Officers
Field marshals, whether promoted while serving or in retirement, continue to use this rank.
Other regular officers who attained the substantive rank of captain and above may use, and be addressed by, their rank on retirement from the Army.

Re: Coronabollocks..
Not having the basis and data to run a standardized evaluation I decided to do an analysis of the John Hopkins Data based on numbers from between 15/03/2020 up to yesterday for the UK and the USA to show the Case Fatality Ratio for those two countries...
NB - The Case Fatality Ratio is not the same as the Mortality Rate as confirmed cases can vary from country to country due to different testing policies.
The Case Fatality Ratio is given by Deaths/Confirmed Cases.
UK = 12.8% (and is probably worse because the death number doesn't include the numbers of deaths in Care Homes)
USA = 4.24%
The question is why is this so and to answer that that we need to do a far more precise, weighted and standardized analysis in order to make any meaningful conclusions.
Whatever the cause, when viewed on its own, the UK ratio is disturbingly high.

Re: Coronabollocks..
I see many countries in Europe are taking the first tentative steps towards lifting their lockdowns.
Here in India, yesterday we were told the lockdown was extended until May 3.
Today we are told that much of industry, and construction- along with some shops will be reopening on April 20.
And more to the point, managed to get a crate of beer and two bottles of Scotch today!
