Wool production..
Wool production..
The next time you buy your expensive Italian woollen suite just pause for a moment to reflect on what is required to produce such perfect fibres. In NZ for example fibre contamination is a serious issue and the wearing of synthetic clothing is banned right from the earliest stages of handling the newly shorn wool..

They're not much good at pronouncing vowels, but they sure can do wondrously wonderful things to and with sheep.

Re: Wool production..
You wouldn't want to get those nice, long, white wool fibres contaminated with short, curly dark ones though, would you.

John Hill, do you remember all the fuss in the 80s when Australian shearers were up in arms because NZ shearers were coming in and using wider clippers?

Who buys Italian suites? We have perfectly good furniture makers in UK, Minty, Parker Knoll or Ercol.John Hill wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 9:20 pmThe next time you buy your expensive Italian woollen suite just pause for a moment to reflect on what is required to produce such perfect fibres. Bought some Ercol kitchen furniture cos it was a good British make, found out after delivery that not all Ercol is British made and ours came from Indonesia!

Re: Wool production..
Parker Knoll seems to have had a volatile time lately.
We still have in everyday use, our Made in Chipping Norton suite, that we bought about 1976.
I regret giving 2 Parker Knoll recliners to our son. He sold them, rather than ship them to Australia. These were vintage 1971, and I'd rebuilt the reclining mechanism.

Each year, a well known Italian mens' suit manufacturer, of the brand favoured by a former sharply dressed PM, presents, among other awards, one to the growers of the best wool. For a few years I made the boxes to contain the prize - 8 gold ingots. I forget the sizes, but considerable value in total. One family won it at least three times consecutively.

Re: Wool production..
Is it just an agrarian co-incidence or is it true that green welly sales are always high in quality wool markets?
I am sorry, my baa'd.
I can never help myself with the silly jokes which used infuriate my better half who was involved with the wool show at the Birmingham NEC back in the day. A serious fashion and business orientated subject and one which I used to enjoy vicariously by attending the show once or twice myself.
