Lack of tourists in a holiday destination is a double edged sword.

As a resident, we moan about the tourists, blocking the roads, filling the restaurants and hotels.
But now they are absent, we are wondering if the restaurants and hotels will ever open again!

We don't wonder. They will, but at least 50% , not this year.

The Season was only five weeks in Catalunia anyway.

I wonder today at the emptiness of such venues as Manhattan and Las Vegas. No traffic, no people, no business. Eerie.

My local haunts, Ann Arbor and Plymouth, Michigan are the same. Spring has come here and temps are warm. People should be gathering at the sidewalk cafe and soaking up the sun, but nobody is there.

Something that could be happening is that our lockdowns may have insidiously been changing our culture to be more home-centric and less socially engaging.

I repeat my earlier post: wonderful to see a Prime Minister taking decisions based on pure medical and scientific advice. (Er, no.....).

So Sanchez claims that after the borders reopen, the foreign tourists and Spanish nationals will be somehow protected from interchanging the Virus. Good luck with that one. We'll be there from early July, if all goes well, and I know full well we'll be keeping a wide distance from everyone, having nude power washing sessions in the front yard when returning from shopping, drinking Chlorine, and.......(Cont. page 94)

By then he'll have a system in place requiring permits for all viruses wishing to transfer between locals and tourists.

Just received a photograph taken yesterday of members of a motorcycle club (not bikers) at the end of a substantial meal INDOORS in a restaurant sitting SIDE BY SIDE, sitting with our friend's daughter who is NOT A MEMBER OF THEIR FAMILY, and NOT A MASK IN SIGHT. So strict Phase 1 then.

Quarantine for visitors to Spain will be stopped from July 1st. It's still recommended not to stand within two metres of a French tourist, however.

A sudden large rise this week in infections in Catalan care homes, and a spike in the town of Lleida where a family birthday party was held with one infected guest.

Nissan is closing its factory in Barcelona with the loss of about 2,800 jobs, according to the Spanish government.
The move is part of a worldwide restructuring being unveiled by the Japanese carmaker.
The closure could cost Nissan, which has a major UK plant in Sunderland, up to €1bn (£898m), the government said.
Car sales have been hit by the virus pandemic, while manufacturers are investing heavily in electric vehicles.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Medium-sized Renault Trafic vans were built at Vauxhall's Luton plant until 2019.
Now PSA own Vauxhall some Peugeot and Citroen vans might be built there.

Some Reggie's are built/assembled at the SA plant of Nissan.

Dunno just what, as I've never been in the market for either make.

Though I did walk around and peer into a 350Z that was on display in Sandton Square at one time.

Violent protests outside the Nissan/Renault plant in Barcelona today where thousands of Spanish 'workers' demonstrated against the loss of their jobs by stopping work, setting up barricades of burning tires and the like.

A Belgian prince has contracted coronavirus after attending a party during lockdown in Spain, the country's royal palace says.

Prince Joachim, 28, travelled from Belgium to Spain for an internship on 26 May, the palace said.

Two days later, he went to a party in the southern city of Córdoba, before testing positive for Covid-19.

Spanish reports suggest the prince, a nephew of Belgium's King Philippe, was among 27 people at the party.

Under Córdoba's lockdown rules, a party of this size would be a breach of regulations, as gatherings of no more than 15 people are currently permitted.

One rule for us, other rules for them.

Hee haw.

Interesting article in today's Sunday Times anticipating an upturn in the Catalan property market as wealthier Spanish (?) seek rural property, French move out of lockdown, and British seek easy residency paperwork before Brexit. But who knows..
