#1 Post by PHXPhlyer » Tue Jun 30, 2020 8:04 pm

Anyone with a first or second grader that can help this journalist out?

An Oklahoma man who proudly flies Nazi flags at his home opened fire on a young woman who tried to steal one of those banners, officials said.

Alexander John Feaster, 44, was being held in the Garfield County Jail on Tuesday, booked for assault and battery with a deadly weapon and shooting with intent to kill, according to jail administrators.

Deputies in Hunter, a small town about 90 miles north of Oklahoma City, found the 26-year-old woman in a ditch Sunday after she had been shot in the back by Feaster between three and five times with a 5.56mm rifle, according to Garfield County Sheriff Jody Helm.

The victim had been with friends at a nearby party when she apparently snatched one of the swastika flags displayed outside Feaster's home.

Helm said he wasn't sure if the woman was trying to take the flag as a political statement, or if she was acting on a dare by partygoers.

"There's conflicting information," Helm said.

Feaster is well known locally for his affinity for those Nazi flags and young neighbors have tried stealing the banners before.

“I know the whole town doesn't like him," Helm said.

Feaster was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail and his next court appearance is set for July 9.

It was not clear on Tuesday if Feaster had hired a lawyer, though Helm said the suspect immediately asked for an attorney and has not spoken to investigators.

The woman was listed in in good condition at OU Medical Center and expected to survive her wounds, officials said.

What's the answer? ~X(

Four?

Good thing it was 4 to 5 times.

My father's ship had a fire in the fire peak. He told the reporter there was 4 to 5 tons of paint there. It was duly reported as 425 tons. Well, it was Essex.

42 is generally considered a good answer.

PN: Did you come up with that answer on your own or did you have a first or second grader handy?
I can't stand reporting where the headline says something like " Nearly tho dozen dead'''" and then give an exact number ie. 22, in the body of the story. ~X(

PHXphlyer, my gripe is journalists using percentages instead of words like half, third, nearly a quarter, or four out of five. I think the average Joe does not understand percentages. Quoting the actual percentages should be in tables.

I suspect many journalists, many of whom go into politics, are innumerate!

I tend to think a bright pre-Ker would work for most journalists. :))

Sometimes the headline is based on unofficial numbers and then the story under the headline is updated with accurate counts as they are announced. Sometimes they get figures from another dimension.

TGG, I have said it before, the politicos wives are often smarter.

My wife was doing the census and called on the late Sir Peter Tappsel our MP as his form has not been completed correctly. He had omitted his wife's DOB. At first he looked down his nose at this little woman at the door of his country seat. The shouted Chloe or similar (his wife was French) "what's your date of birth?"

Different world? Definitely.

Llondel, or sometimes the worst case presaging Armageddon like Mark Carney's prediction of UK post -Brexit. Who knows if he was right as the goalposts haven't been moved but taken down and dumped behind some hospital somewhere.
