Out on the terrace, lights out, looking at the planets, when a huge white? owl flew a few feet over us, in complete silence of course. Breathtaking..

Morning folks.

21c at the mo. Blue sky day. The rain has been postponed until Thursday the science says.

Front of house hedge trimmed yesterday by a man who could, for €30.

For UP. I've wondered for a while. WTH is a Catman and what are Battmen? When I was a young offcer (a long time ago) my batman kept me looking smart and brought a morning cup of tea at 0700. In Sharjah my "bearer" also brought a cup of incredibly sweet tea and referred to me as "My Lord" as he pulled the curtains. What were the roles of the chaps you're talking about. Only because I is curious you understand.

Morning folks. Looked at the front garden this morning and as it looks a bit shabby, thought "I'll sort that today"....still thinking about it. More tea required before the final decision.

Ex-A, in the V-Force copilots became captains or didn't. If they didn't cut it in the 60s (many different reasons) they got some very rare postings. One became a ground FAC. But one, Jules Brett, got a tour with the British Antarctic Survey. As tourex (12 months) approached he applied to extend only to be told his predecessor would replace him. He immediately applied for the following tour.

What to do for 12 months? He applied for Oman Air Force loan service. He visited the sqn driving a brand new Bristol.
Morning folks. Got a friend down there with the British Antarctic Survey Team PN flying a Twotter. Says it is a great job. They go to South America in the winter. He was a bush pilot here. He is from Ricardian's neck of the woods. Some small island, don't think that there is a ferry they have their own boat. When he goes home in the northern winter he probably thinks it is tropical. He was at college with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Worked as a dispatcher for Reddo's company. Wanted to go back as a pilot but couldn't get the requirements for an ATPL.

Apparently down there they rarely use runways you just pick a smooth bit of ice and hope it stops. :-o 12,000' of tarmac and a terminal with duty free for me thank you.

More grass transplanting. Four hours this morning and loads more to do.

Morning,
25c gradually cloud building from the West after a crystal morning.

Yesterday afternoon spent at Fang Fettler awaiting emergency slot to re-attach temporary tooth.
SM has come out in sympathy and has broken a front tooth flush at the gum.
She has gone for an emergency slot.
I suppose it's different for women you would think nobody had broken a tooth before.

Just on last dog follow it tried to rain, just about wet the terraces and sandied the pond but not measurable.
Wx station rain threshold is either 0.1 or 1mm can't remember.

Digging it up from one area and taking to another??...I've been looking at about a metre of old grass that the excavator / bobcat combo couldn't get to now for about a fortnight. I was going to (will eventually) move it to the side of the house.

70 odd square metres of 'Couch' turf to be ordered (Assuming Queensland Blue Couch?....dunno for sure) and laid after garden bed installation...$5.50 supplied and laid. (Jnr Fliegs reckons this is a good deal, and he is in the landscaping game at this time)

Ex-A, at Mountbatten i think they told of one trip where there was whiteout. The pilot simply descend into the mist and lost all visibility.

Some time later he and his passengers woke up. He had completed a smooth landing and they had all passed out.

Great pic of Stanford Tuck and fellow pilots posing in front of his Hurricane in today's Torygraph. Even Mrs PN recognised a Hampden bomber was not a Hurricane.

Fliegs no it's a creeper. Cut off the runners and transplant. However we have got all sorts of different types of grass. Got a box of seed last week which does well in shade. Our Buffalo grass which was doing really well seems to have died. It is a disaster area. Probably why there are not many croquet lawns in the desert.

When I was at Topcliffe my "man" would deliver himself of philosophical thought as he pulled the curtains.
"7 o'clock and it's pissin' wi' rain and its' all you buggers fault"
"Really why's that Freud(as he was fondly known)?"
Settles down. "Right, if you're standin' at side o' t A1 and bloody great pantechnicon comes along at 40 mph, right? and a bloody great whoomph of air hits you and moves you over, right? Now you're up there doing 140mph and yon plane is bigger than the pantechnicon so the whoomph of air is that much bigger, right and it knocks all the watter out o't clouds and makes rain, right? Makes sense don't it? So it's your fault, all of you".
"Well I hadn't thought of it that way but I will discuss it with the met man this afternoon, by the way where are my shoes?"

Thanks UP. I will remind you as it was an interesting period. Salalah is the only place I've ever visited where I was greeted at the entrance to the "town" by a row of heads on spikes, of the rebels killed up in the "Jebel". They didn't piss about there, then.
