I fukkn lerve the SkyVan
This movie makes me back so much to my time(s) as a catman with my battmen in Oman.
This sort of **** really did happen.
Always my fault, of course.
Oh! How I loved the Shed!
My memories are from Oman, but those piccies show what I mean to express.

Tell me about it UP. Experienced same from fixing up Twin Pins (152 Sdrn) around exciting places like Buraimi Oasis to BN2A's in PNG (Upper Sepik) through to various Piper and Cessna's around the edges of the Kalahari, just south of Ex-A's abode. They were truly good times. The Buraimi Oasis event was watched over by the Trucial Oman Scouts, who loaned us the camels.Undried Plum wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:36 amThis sort of **** really did happen.

Long grass tidying and weed-cutting at this YT channel - something satisfying about seeing order come out of disarray:
Blade Mate Lawn Care
Watched this video recently -
Free yard cleanup for a person in need - Part 1. Video runs 25:14, a Part 2 came later:

UP, I guess you know of the Skyvan crash in Oman. They were flying a load of 40g fuel drums into an LZ. In order to speed up the drop off the local load master released the tie downs before touchdown.
As they touched down the LZ went hot, the pilot aborted the landing but as they climbed away the load shifted and the aircraft crashed all killed.

We need less of this
Another desert scenario where the load master/cargo airline company's lack of adherence to a standard safe procedure for special loads, lead to disaster...

Re: We need more
I remember so well my days as a Catman working with the Battmen in Oman.
I was there, with G Sqn, after the following film was a subject, doing the H&M thing.
Here's Pete Warne telling the way one battle was:
Here's tae ye, Mike (of B Sqn). A very good friend.
I was a civilian, amongst clever warriors.

A superb restoration of this piece of film:
[4k, 60fps, colorized] (1918) WWI, The Battle of the Lys and the Escaut. 11 November, Armistice Day.
Runs 5:36.

Oh!, but it was. And then it wasn't. And then it was. And then it wasn't. And then it cost a billion or so each time the poxy navy ran out of money for changing its mind.TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 8:37 pmSo why was the steam catapult not built into the two Elizabeth Class Aircraft carriers?

UP, a bit like the Typhoon without a gun but ballast on stead. The best and cheapest ballast was a gun, so it became with a gun but not for use. Then it was decided they would.
I have a 27mm shell from an early, possibly first trial, as a paperweight.

An aircraft that carries the dead weight of two vertical lift engines that are effectively useless in normal flight mode. A step backwards from the Harrier's thrust vectoring!Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 8:46 pmTGG I believe to save money with providing a steam generator so we could buy the sexyand to hell with range and payloadvertical take off and landing aircraft
