Re: HRH PP - RIP
I would expect that any unit that he was Hon. Col or Commodore of would be represented.
My question is logistical; what did the lead lined coffin weigh?
I had great sympathy for the pall bearers, especially when they were stood still on the chapel steps.

Re: HRH PP - RIP
I thought that ,too, Ian.
I was referring more to significance of the uniform regalia, equipment, etc.

I can't speak for HRHPP's coffin but Dianas weighed a quarter of a ton, apparently the lead lining and lack of air preserves the body for at least a year..

Re: HRH PP - RIP
Ceremonial superbly carried out - great credit to all those who took part.
For Mrs 4ma and myself, the most poignant moment was just after The Queen stepped out of her car on her way into the chapel. She stopped and turned around, and took a moment or two to realise her dearly beloved wasn't there to follow her in. That moment had Mrs 4ma reaching for the tissues and I found I had several specks of dust in my eyes.
The haunting sound of the pipes playing "Flowers of the forest" was another moment which caused the hairs on the back of the head to prickle.
On a lighter side, junior daughter was watching with her two young boys and was explaining to her youngest that the Duke had died and was in the box - called a coffin - that was being carried by the soldiers. Youngest, in all innocence, asked "Do they let him out afterwards".

I loved the Land Rover hearse. Would have preferred Air Force blue or desert khaki.

Their is a company in the UK that converts new land rovers into hearses. Saw it advertised the other day.

I dunno about Sandringham, but I do know the Landys they have at Balmoral are that shade of green. I suspect that is what most influenced his choice of colour for that vehicle.

I read that the LR project dates back to 2003.

I bet that Landrover was fettled to within an inch of its life - couldn't have it dumping the contents of its sump onto Betty's finest gravel drive could we?

They did two just in case the other one was close by on stand by
Re: HRH PP - RIP
I suppose it (they) will be disposed of as surplus to requirement - probably be consigned to Gaydon Museum - they have a Land Rover section and an adjacent Royal vehicles section.

In Spanish of course.I understood the Californian branch was providing a commentary for US viewers.
Using a telephone to call corporate entities near Los Angeles one has to "Press 1 for Spanish, Press 2 for English"
I kid you not. The way of the Woke World I guess ?
Re: HRH PP - RIP
It is traditional to provide 'refreshments' by way of a buffet at funerals - though Corvid restrictions might have negated that.
The guests were seen to walk in an informal procession from the service and this would normally have been to the refreshment venue.

Jnr Fliegs & His Girlfriend came by this afternoon.....I made rounds of finger sandwiches & little cakes & we had a kinda 'High Beer' rather than tea...seemed fitting. Funny some of the stuff you don't know your kids don't know...
