I dont think BLM folk can really be blamed for something that was written about almost five years ago.

The answer would seem to be reduced to one simple place, that is the land of your birth place. I don't mean country, though your birth place will be in a country. I don't even mean a place where you were born. I mean a place where your ancestors were born, a place where you belong.

I certainly don't pine for Birkenhead, but the high fells of the Lake District beckon. Coincide maybe, but, without knowing, I went to school near our ancestral origin. There are even places bearing the family name.

The caveat is there may be too many people planning the same thing.

My wife's parents come from Grimsby but her father's line came from London, and before that, Cornwall. In Cornwall there is a village again of the family name. Now curiously, one son has settled in Norfolk, which had family connections, one son is in Somerset and the other in Cornwall. None of them knew the family connections before them moved.

When, or will, Aucklanders, and New Zealanders as a whole, stop cringing and wake up to what is being done to their culture and largely with their money?

Absolutely, Although not of New Zealand birth and origin, I have adopted New Zealand, not Aotowotsit ( can't even spell it, and won't try ) as my present home, and will refuse to change - stuff 'em.

Our second Covid vaccination has been delayed, because the Northern District Health Board has allowed dedicated Maori innoculaton centres to be opened for all Maori over 50, and in our 80s we're not allowed to visit them, and the "regular" centres are running out of of the Pfizer vax, which is the vax of choice. Second jab now "may" occur at the end of June, some 6 weeks after the first one.

Name change ? I still refer to Ceylon, Burma, Bombay, Calcutta, Madras etc. can't be bothered even trying to remember the present names, and as I'm unlikely to have to make in-flight announcements anymore, who cares. Also, don't even ask me about Central European countries anymore, still Yugoslavia and Czechoslavakia to me, no idea where all the present names refer to.

Bigotted ? Moi ? Too old to change.

"I dont think BLM folk can really be blamed for something that was written about almost five years ago".

The history of the BLM organization goes back to before Dr Michael Bassett scribed his article. The sentiments expressed, although belonging to a different country, closely follow what is happening to many countries in the Western world. One can see the results of actions of this organization displayed quite openly in many countries.

https://blacklivesmatter.com/herstory/
In 2013, three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter. It was in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman.

"As #BlackLivesMatter developed throughout 2013 and 2014, we utilized it as a platform and organizing tool. Other groups, organizations, and individuals used it to amplify anti-Black racism across the country, in all the ways it showed up. Tamir Rice, Tanisha Anderson, Mya Hall, Walter Scott, Sandra Bland — these names are inherently important. The space that #BlackLivesMatter held and continues to hold helped propel the conversation around the state-sanctioned violence they experienced. We particularly highlighted the egregious ways in which Black women, specifically Black trans women, are violated. #BlackLivesMatter was developed in support of all Black lives."

It would appear that the leaders of this action have used much of the finance donated to the organization being used to purchase Real Estate in various high cost locations, how unusual for such a thing to happen. Would appear to be an incurable Marxist habit.

"As protests broke out across the country in the name of Black Lives Matter, the group’s co-founder went on a real estate buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone, according to property records".

Wherever Billy Connolly lives since he left Scotland sounds good to me.

One would hope that most of us, apart from any nutters, are truly 'woke' as per definition

"alert to injustice in society, especially racism."

Is it time for a new word to define this scourge - 'over-woke'?
