Granddottir seems to have been here before. Nearly home on the bus, and said to her mum "I'm a little bit hot, mummy". Mummy replied "We're nearly home, and I'll get you a nice glass of cold water". Without a pause, the reply was "An ice cream would make me cooler".

What have I spawned???

The friendly Yodel driver has just dropped off a box from Beer Hawk with 15 bottles of low or zero alcohol beers for my delectation and delight. All part of my new regimen to create "die hernude Goblin". Fit, healthy, reasonable, wise, kind, gentle, children loving, office and ops-normal friendly, reichsfreundlich, and that sort of stuff (some might say guff)...

I wonder if I should try a bottle now, the 0.5% Doom Bar looks interesting! My body is a temple, of doom, after all. The sun is over the yardarm! =))

I went for the Doom Bar, and have decanted the bottle into a glass to chill in the fridge. It is actually 0% so I am not pushing the boat out too far.

Here is the bottle with a curious, some might say envious pigeon, sitting on the fence on this one...

Never really understood the point of alcohol free beer or wine. However, enjoy!

One makes a sensible decision to sit and have a major slack out in the sun and suddenly the Protestant God, as if to spite one's lack of the prerequisite work ethic, conjures up the beginnings of a what looks like it might morph into precipitation later... "I ain't moving for the divine manipulator until I have sipped my long cool Doom Bar man!" =))

Does reticence feature anywhere in that, perchance?

Weather at 59N is quite acceptable.
Blimey Ricardian, OK it is cool here in the winter at dawn but we make mid 20s by lunchtime and rarely any cloud. Just been cruising, no excitement. Phones still down. Can't communicate about beer delivery and expecting some tailoring back and do not know where that is. Some rather expensive items I do not want just dropped off somewhere. One local has already asked to buy my pinstripe suit trousers. He couldn't believe the value.
I could cope with heat when I was 19 and on my first overseas tour (Sharjah 1963-64) with temperatures of 100+ almost every day. Cyprus (Akrotiri 1965-67) was cooler but still tolerable. Alas, nowadays, 17 years after retirement, I much prefer cooler temperatures. If I do feel cold I just put on another pullover and have a mug of hot Bovril!

Ricardian, working in the heat it a different problem I am sure most of us here have had to do it. Also being retired we prefer the heat. Easier to cool down in the pool with a cold beer than get warm when cold. Seen your magnificent school pool. Do you have a public one? Guess not outdoors but at least there is the sea.

Ex A, there is also the quality of the heat. In Singapore, with high humidity, it can be very uncomfortable. However after one trip we found the 35 degree heat cold as the cabin temp had been around 50. Even though we had drunk vast amounts of squash none of us needed a pee.

In Egypt, on the Nile, the deck temperature was 40 and quite comfortable as it was very low humidity.

In Goose, at - 25 it was equally dry and quite pleasant with the sun on my back

Grumbling apparent as Thor strikes his hammer somewhere. Cu building to the south but not much rain forecast. New patios just tamped but undamped crush limestone. Work stopped at midday awaiting sand delivery tomorrow.

PN was faster than me to point out the humidity factor that renders cold or heat much less tolerable.

A bit late with my wishes to Wooders and SM as I couldn't type earlier.

And congratulations Ex-A for breaking the 10,000 post barrier.

We are very happy. 10 cases of large bottles of beers in the car. Also my tailoring. New pair of wings put onto my flying jacket. One pair of trousers taken up and an amazing job of letting out my suit trousers using material from inside hems. Outstanding work total charge including 80 km round trip £6. Told her I could get her a job in London.

Edit, thanks RiS but congratulations are more deserved for getting 10 cases of beer. :YMPARTY:

Found a decent compromise in ZA. Windhoek 2%. Didn't taste low alcohol, and I enjoyed a few in the Eastern Cape. Quite a few, if truth be told.

No public pool on Stronsay but one of our GPs (we have 3 on a roster system) has begun a "wild swimming" group, several folk have invested in wet suits (or is it dry suits?). The invitation from her usually goes something like this:
By popular request, 2pm at Mill Bay it is! Come for a swim or a paddle, don't forget your warm clothes and a hot drink for afterwards!
However, disaster struck on one occasion:
Having inadvertantly completely destroyed both the pager and the work phone on Wednesday's swim (don't worry, I've been permanently available via switchboard until replacements arrived!) I'm not intending to go any further than knee deep on Saturday - will be getting an even more hyper safe collection of dry bags while I'm away! But if you'd like to swim I'm happy to be around for moral support from 2pm on Saturday and would love to watch you swim.

Builder returned quarter hour ago and performed rain dance. Limestone duly damped and Thor, laughing, beat his drum minutes later.

Limestone now well damped. Had our new patio been completed it would have been clothes off and God's shower.
