Sheep and other domesticated animals.

#1 Post by G-CPTN » Sun May 16, 2021 3:43 pm

Before humans arrived in currently populated areas, there must have been animals - or were they all imported from elsewhere?

That there are breeds (of sheep) that are endemic to distinct areas (eg Herdwicks) were they already established and adopted by the settlers?

God would not have put the New Zealanders or the Welsh in place without ensuring a supply. :))

I believe sheep transported overseas did not necessarily do it in the same ship. I think they were dropped off en route to feed with a previous shipment picked up for the next leg.

Ascension Island seemed to have two distinct varieties. One lot lived up the mountain with plenty of food adequate water and cooler conditions. The other lived on the plain, in the heat, and unshorn. You would see them standing on a hillock just catching the slightest breath of cooler air.

I have memories from somewhere, that the 1st creatures farmed by humans for food were snails!

Are Rams selective?
Watching Clarkson with his sheep and two rams let loose in the flock, how do the rams know to cover all the sheep rather than one several times? How do the two rams know not to cover the same ram?

I did: 75 of them. If you had been presented with 72 virgins, are you sure you would not have double dipped and also avoided sloppy seconds.

How do you know 3 were not virgins, PN? Do you have a dark secret you need to share? It will be safe with us - you know we won't spill the beans.

You haven't seen Clarkson then. Three could not be tupped and were for the bullet, apart from the adoring looks they have him.
