Re: Escape from Loch Ness - The Rescue of Catalina Miss Pickup
The 2021 Summer edition of Catalina News arrived yesterday and it contains a trilogy on the Miss Pick Up rescue saga, written from the perspectives of three of the dramatis personae. What a saga it appears to have been with the aircraft having just missed being holed beneath the waterline by an errant would be rescue craft. As it was the hull was rented and a plexiglass observation bubble broken. It was a near run thing and the aircraft might have sunk and been lost forever if the weather Gods had not smiled beneficently upon them and Miss Pick Up. Changing an engine on the Loch was no mean feat and the logistical exercise, not to mention, the fund raising in extremis, a tribute to all concerned. Hurrah and well done to all concerned!

On BBC2, 2000, Tuesday 5 October, "Saving Lives At Sea" - some of the programme will be the RNLI's part in getting Miss Pickup off Loch Ness and onto dry land for repairs.

A seaplane landed on a 20 mile long loch.
And then took off again.
Make a movie out of that.
3 - 2 - 1 - go

A single engined landing on a 20 mile piste.
Then a double-engined takeoff from such a constrained place?
It's the stuff of movies, surely.

It has more angles than the Angles, more prow skimming excitment than a Viking Air amphibian, and more power than two Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines. Coming to a theatre near you.Undried Plum wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 5:59 pmA single engined landing on a 20 mile piste.

Good bunch of guys. Very skillful. I have flown over Loch Ness 8 times now and have never seen the Loch from water level. Dark and cold. I must visit the area on the ground or water.

Should it be Hans Zimmer?
Y'know. That stuff.
Or should it be better?

Wrong, UP. The engine wouldn’t start when it came to their planned departure. Can’t work out why your posts on the subject are so cynical. At least TGG and I enjoyed tonight’s programme.
