I didn't know the 'Crib Goch' name, but I swear that's what I saw as a 12-year old hiking up Snowdon
The Capetonian WOE Thread
Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
I used to rock climb and sometimes do some mountain climbs there with family/friends and later school friends. We converted an old pill box to use instead of tents with the help of the retired and previous owner of the Pen y Gwryd hotel, Major Lockwood. The ridge walk Crib Goch has amazing exposure on both sides and a school friend later fell off it (luckily for him only a few hundred feet) but broke some bones and had to be taken down by the Mountain Rescue. Lovely guy but two left feet - fortunately he recovered fully. The rock climbing was mainly done on Dinas Cromlech down the Llanberis Pass. We used to look down on the Gnats from Valley flying down the Pass. All this is off topic if it's not Snowdonia!

I didn't know the name Crib Goch but looked it up. Sorry but no. I have walked Crib Goch up to Snowdon. We are in Snowdonia though. Shouldn't take long now.

Pyg Track around Glaslyn with Snowdon on the right? I think the Miner's Track goes around the bay bottom left.

Opsboi is on the peak. Instead of a resettlement course I worked for the Snowdonia National Park as a ranger for a month. I could make my way up there with my eyes closed. Once took Mrs Ex-Ascot up there in a white out. We sat in the hut at the top and the snow stopped. Stepped out to clear blue sky and everything covered in snow. Incredible sight. We then tobogganed down a gully from the top in our survival bag. Probably not a very safe thing to do but enormous fun.
Here is a map.

Gone quiet again. Clue here is very beautiful but you do not want to go to this location. I was persuaded once by my crew but never again.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
My crew wanted to go for a day out from Akrotiri. Ayia Napa was the vote winner. Actually it wasn't too bad. Myself and my Fist Officer sat at a beach bar right in the middle of the beach surrounded by topless birds. Woody on the beach.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
OK, it took me a moment to interpret that last sentence correctly, given the reference to topless birds.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Accustomed to being the only pilot in an aircraft, I was wondering what a fist officer does ?!?!
Then rapidly decided not to try to visualize it.
p.s. back in the '80s, Ayia Napa was great, then it went downhill faster than a lemming off a cliff.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
I’ll post this to change the direction that this thread is taking
An easy one, but if I remember correctly it would be Capetonians birthday this week, so to help remember him I’ll post this
