It's a bit like firewood, some types burn much better than others. If you want heat, then you'd be better off burning petrol and diesel cars, as they have maybe double the calorific value when they catch fire, plus they catch fire very much more readily.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
Part of an EV6 driver's story about his drive from Scotland to the Artic Circle in Norway. He's not a journalist just a happy EV6 driver:
3.9miles per kwh and a battery pack of 77.4kwh gives an actual range to zero of 302 miles. Not bad! I've no desire to drive anywhere near 300 miles in one go without a toilet break. My EV6 now arrives at the dealer on 18 July - can't wait to get my hands on it!Just back from a trip from Scotland to the Artic circle in Norway. 3850 miles 99 hours of the car switched on and 3.9 miles per kWh. Some notes to show how well it worked. It was basically brilliant as a grand tourer.
I used the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry so drove through Holland 100kph limit on motorways there, Germany’s autobahn so had a shot above 100mph, not for long as the battery range drops like a stone and then through Denmark to another ferry to Norway.
I basically drove at 130kph through Germany and Denmark. The smart cruise control worked really well if you set it to the limit, if you stay below it you have to manually adjust every time the limit changes and in Germany it’s up and down like a yo-yo. The car was great on the autobahns, fast to accelerate even past 100, it left most petrol cars standing, probably due to no kick down needed, I was on eco all the time, but it accelerates the same in every mode when you put your foot down. The mode only changes how responsive the pedal is lower down.
The temperature was low 20s going out and driving at 130, every time we stopped to charge it went right up to 230kw plus straight away, that’s starting at 30 to 40%. Used Ionity almost all the time. We had to wait a few times but no queue. The ev6 charging was great as we typically were the first to leave even when starting 5 minutes later than anyone else. Only enough time for the toilet and a takeaway coffee.

I was stunned to learn that Ford is abandoning the manufacture of the Fiesta, Focus, and Mondeo. Looks as if, after years of buying Ford, I will have to turn elsewhere in future. The wife's Fiesta is still purring along after 18 years. The fuel tank hadn't shrunk in size and it happily starts when left unused for months while we are in England. It's on it's third battery.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
Next time someone tells you electric cars are non-polluting..... So many have been sold in China that they are building more coal-powered power stations to generate the necessary electricity. They buy the low-sulphur coal from Australia, which is running out of electricity, so is even considering building nuclear generation facilities, way in the future. Germany also has a tentative increase in coal burning power stations on the books, since Merkel shut down their nuclear power generation because of the risk of tsunamis. The Greens are resisting building coal powered generation facilities, but if they want clean electric cars they have no choice but to pollute the atmosphere burning coal. . Mad world!

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
Goodwood Festival of Speed timed shootout yesterday. EVs are literally pissing all over the fastest petrol cars, by a massive margin. Fun bit is at around 38 minutes in, when the McMurty Automotive Speirling completely obliterates some of the fastest cars in the world. ~1.4 seconds to 60mph. Lots of fun for sure, but it seems pretty clear that the dinosaurs with the suck, squeeze, bang, blow contraptions are on the road to extinction:

Oh! Puhleeze!
A household member, who must never be mentioned, does that stuff twice a week on the shopping run.
The sideways squeeze of the required smile under such sideyways g is not easily maintained, I can tell ye.
I'm not sure that the autoinfantilisiner of our forum will not allow this blurt, but it's something like faaak! when in the passenger seat.
The for'ra'd g is something with which our bananaflattening banana brethren of the ff fraternity are familiar with, but the sideways g on the way to and from Morrison Bros is something else.
No wonder they don't bother to try to hire backseaters in faststuff nowadays!
Faaak!

Seem to have a Noggie registered Tesla visiting down the hill.
Nearest Tesla charger is about 10km away in Nerja it's a destination charger whatever that is but only 20Kw which seems to me as useful as tits on a bull.
The nearest Supercharger (there are two) are around Fuengerola they are 120 and 150kw. That is about an hours drive from here.
I assume his best bet is an overnight charge from the house and then plan his coffee stops for the return journey.

Pretty cheap of Toyota.
Of the approximately 2,700 vehicles affected by the recall, 2,200 went to Europe, 260 to the US, 10 to Canada and 110 stayed in Japan. Subaru is recalling approximately 2,600 Solterras. Toyota said all owners should park affected vehicles until the issue is remedied. "Until remedy is available, any authorized Toyota dealer will pick up the vehicle and provide a loaner free of charge," Toyota said.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
Wasn't it something like the wheels falling off? Are Toyota owners so inept* they can't check the bolts themselves?
*As in Prius owners never driving over 30mph.
Oh I see. A hub bolt, whatever that is. Give wheel a good pull. If it appears tight, it is. If it wobbles or comes off in your hand, it isn't.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
Of course wheels falling off would never happen to an ICE car would it? No, the steering wheels just come off in your hands on some Ford ICE cars in the US.......

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
My point was that in ANY car, no matter what makes it go, are drivers so dumb they (a) don't notice it happening and (b) can't at least try to remedy the problem?

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
There's a story doing the rounds that the problem relates to tolerances between the bolts and the wheels, not the torque settings of the bolts. Toyota are apparently replacing all the bolts on recalled cars. There's also been suggestions that the defective bolts may damage the wheels and that Toyota want to check for signs of damage during the recall.
