Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
That was quick!
Port Isaac it is, this was taken only a couple of weeks ago when Mrs S and I were spending some time in Cornwall. On a previous visit some years ago we, also, stayed in the old school!
Back to you, sir!

Life may not be the party you hoped for, but while you're here, you may as well dance.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
O/H declared.
Thought it may be near DBx and vaguely recall going there on a peregrination toward the lake district some years back.

Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.
Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Tricky? One could definitely say odd.
It is not a church and nor is it a pub.

My first thought was it was something to do with the Wright brothers.
I will try with something to do with a nuclear test.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
In 1967 on the island of Sal, the nerve centre of Santa Maria Oceanic looked like that. Inside was a swarthy looking operator sitting in front of one of these old fashioned microphones in a square frame with the working part suspended on four bouncy springs. Amazingly once we lumbered airborne in our Shackleton it worked! I hogged the radio on that leg wishing that I could have taken a picture of that chap at his desk but sounding as if he had his head in a bucket. It was an image from the days of Marconi.
As an aside, the nav was ecstatic about achieving a MERPASS as we crossed the equator. As our destination was Ascension it was the only time I was ever concerned about the ability of the nav. ASI wouldn't switch on the NDB until we called them with an ETA with an hour to go. We never did raise them on HF but we hit ASI on the nose. Phew!
The Ancient Mariner
PS I don't think our flight plan went any further than the spike sitting on the desk beside the mic.
