Postie bike is close but in reality hundreds of kilometres off in location.

The pub in the story...
.... somewhat of a change from what we often see here, certainly far removed from the Parson and His Ferret at Little-Piddling-in-the Marsh.

Re: Trivia Question of the Day
Ah, I should have read the question (and looked at the spelling). Tom Kruse drove the mail truck on the Birdsville & Strzelecki tracks, in far north of South Australia. He was quite a legend when I met him while working in the area in the mid-'70s. He had a service station in Hawker then, and a display of some old flying doctor equipment, including a Traeger pedal radio.
Re: Trivia Question of the Day
Ah yes, but what was the (hybrid?) vehicle he drove?

Re: Trivia Question of the Day
Tom Kruse's 1936 Leyland Badger, diesel, with the frame and double drive rear axles of a 1924 Thornycroft grafted on. This obviously is not a mail run but it is a good picture of the vehicle in it's early days whereas most pictures on-line show it in a very travel weary condition.
I am off to my cosy pit now so Hydromet you take the con please...

A short clip from the 1954 movie, The Back Of Beyond, an award winning documentary which was shown in NZ schools at the time.

Includes Tome Kruse and his Leyland/Thornycroft truck.

Correct Mam. It is due to his love of Botswana. Please don't come back mate. Very special word here. In Setswana it means 'rain' in other words the meaning of life. So our currency is also Pula.

Thank you, Ex-A.
I haven't cluttered up my mind with the names of their chooks.
Q. The 'March', from A Little Suite by Trevor Duncan, was used as the theme to which tv series?
