Done the doctor. Over an hour. I threatened to walk out many times. The head quack wanted me to stay in the clinic under observation. Mrs Ex-Ascot said forget it he will not. They kept wanting me to lie on a bed. I refused even a seat. I stood. There are standards. Took blood and an ECG then I was off to the pub.

The President is here opening our new airport terminal. We stayed away. Cop cars with sirens going all over the place.

Raining but warm.

Max wind speed was 104 kph last night, but not on bedroom side of house and not noisy. We've had the wood stove lit every night from October, got thru two trailer loads of logs so far.

I was thinking about uses for your endoscope 4ma. It occurred to me that with the current wait times etc with the NH you could use it for a self colonoscopy and save all the problems with going to the hospital etc. I suppose though it wouldn't eliminate the rather unpleasant preparation phase (been there, done that)!

Busy day. Shopping, then replacement radiator grill for bedroom after brittle old PVC one was destroyed by the lovely Ms R yesterday.. The only one I could get was too long so had to cut the shelf. Out with battery jigsaw! New grill is powder coated aluminum.

Central heating timer stuck on, had to race over to Empuriabrava, buy and install new switch. Stuck in queue at DIY shop behind Frenchwoman asking for a chimney sweep. Charming blond cashier is obviously dyslexic as couldn't write sweeps number...many attempts, I longed to leap over the counter and give her a hand.

We had a central heating problem. We have underfloor heating and it kept losing pressure. UFH is uninsurable and hence expensive. The ceilings were dry so any leak my be at the boiler or ground floor.

Before paying for an expert I ordered one of those camera thingees. It arrived the next day and as is Amazon's norm it was left on the door step. Our young dog, about a year old, helpfully unpacked it for us before examining the electronics.

Remarkably it still worked but not really useable with its wires partly stripped. Fast forward 3 years, the pressure loss was at least 5 monthly event and usually discovered when Mrs PN took a cold shower in the morning.

Then the heating failed.

It was a u/s pump designed to work the flu. It was fixed at a very reasonable price. We had hit showers, and inexplicably it cured the pressure loss.

We've a pressure loss in the UK flat. No signs of water anywhere so I suspect the over-pressure relief valve is losing air. I'll have it serviced this summer.

We are in UK, first time in 3+ years, and what is the main lead in the tv news

The Prime Minister sitting in the back seat of a car without a seat belt.

Really?

As we approach Burns Night on the 25th January the Haggis hunting season has been in full swing since last April. Jim Leslie, a Scottish Tourist Guide, takes us through the two varieties of Haggis, how to catch them and why the two varieties remain pure with no cross-mating....

My better half and I are off to London tonight for a good friend's birthday party. Same age as me, so I don't have to ask the lady her age (very infra dig apparently). Worth schlepping all the way in for her. Saffer, Afrikaans lady, who has lived in the UK as long as me. It will be good to catch up with her and some other folks I haven't seen, some literally, for years.

3° here, windy, and CH didn't come on automatically during the night but needed two pokes on the reset button at seven am, hence the house is cool, to put it mildly. Colder the weather gets, the less happy the CH is about starting, but as the (Spanish) instructions say, "needing to press the reset button does not necessarily mean there's a fault."

Had a very enjoyable evening yesterday with No1 daughter at the World Grand prix snooker event in Cheltenham. Mrs M and I usually go, but as she has been suffering with a very bad cold for last few days and didn't feel like going, daughter said she would like to go. At the interval we decided to go to the bar and D1 said she would buy the drinks. She came back with the drinks and very pleased expression as she had been asked for age ID before being served. She is 35 and a mother of two. My asking her if the barman had a white stick and a labrador was met with a look of sheer distain

Bright and crispy on the Humber, -2C. Moderate fog warning and you can see for miles pretty contrails everywhere.
We are out for an annual lunch with a group of friends Mrs 1DC has declared that I am having a haircut which is a bit severe in this weather, I have a number 1 all over! (A mini scalping)

Er no, thank goodness my better half noted that I had her age wrong on the card. She is one year younger than me. What a Green cack handed faux pas that would have been. Was tempted to just strike out the number and correct it in my inimitable way but was sent off to Senners with a flea in my ear to purchase a new card! =))

Got to feel for the poor old haggises (haggi?). Only a few weeks to regroup after Burns Night, then start ducking! We used to send the girls and their friends off snipe hunting. They never caught one-imagine that ;))) I hear that the Australian drop bear is also quite elusive.

Porch finished. The colour is growing on me. Going to start painting indoor skirting boards and trim-should be fun-no one said ever.
