No more colored collars on the pups.
How are you keeping them sorted, or are you?
I like the one with white toes on left rear foot.

The gauge was being transported by a subcontracted company, which picked it up from the mine site on 12 January to move it to a storage facility in the north-east suburbs of Perth.
When it was unpacked for inspection on 25 January the gauge was found broken apart and the radioactive capsule was gone. One of four mounting bolts and screws were also missing.
Authorities said vibrations during transit may have caused the bolts to become loose, allowing the capsule to fall through gaps in the casing and truck.

I'm not generally a conspiracy theorist, but I'm sure there is more to the loss of this than meets the eye. There's now going to be an inquiry into how it was lost. I wonder what will be found/covered up.G-CPTN wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 11:47 amI find it amazing that the Australians managed to find the radioactive capsule that fell off the back of a truck as it was being transported 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) along the Great Northern Highway from a mine - I guess radioactive was the clue - but it was only 6mm diameter!
It was found two metres from a remote road by crews using radiation detection equipment.
It was initially detected by staff inside a car that was travelling at 70km/h past the capsule. A handheld radiation device was then used to find the exact location on the ground.
The question is - was the capsule really 'loose' on its own rather than being packed into a carrier?
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
They still have collars on, it's just that the fur is growing out and you can't see them any more unless you look closely. The one with the white toes has a black collar, so you probably wouldn't see it anyway. She's over 6kg now, ten times her birth weight in just under six weeks.

Watched a very interesting documentary on Max Mosley and must say that although he clearly wasn't a saint, he was certainly a formidable intellect, and in some ways a very charming, and dare I say decent man, despite all the evidence to the contrary in certain areas of the press. I thoroughly recommend this Netflix documentary.

Morning folks. Cloudy at first but now breaking up. The joys of living off grid. Power cut at 23.15. Turned out to be a short on an outside lighting circuit. We have had this attended to before but they obviously didn't fix it. Internet crashed this morning and a result of the power cut our remote solar monitoring went down. I managed to reset the latter myself but required phone assistance with the Internet.

Blitish Glass man arrived on time to survey our leaking radiator. Filling in the paperwork took longer than doing the "survey", i.e. measuring up for a replacement. I had passed the measurements when I reported the leak but it has to be one of their own who does the "official" measuring - funny old thing, my measurements and his were the same. Still, keeps someone in a job. Now waiting for a day when they will come a fit the replacement.

For the first time in 30 years a Mossas d'Esquadra (Catalan police) roadblock entering our urbanisation. Pulled over, "documentation, please." Luckily, going to the annual inspection tomorrow (mine is three days expired) I had all paperwork in the car including proof of insurance. International Driving Permit regarded with interest, "but with this, sir, you must also show your national licence." Amazingly I had it with me. Explained I'm less than six months of the year in Spain. Papers taken over to the computer van, checked, all in order. Waved good by. Our cleaner, the lovely Ms R., was just leaving, going the other way. Waved thru, of course.

In Germany I carried a Sonder-Ausweis which literally opened every door, usually with a salute. I could even enter an arriving aircraft, go on board, and escort arriving relatives off the plane. Lufthansa only of course, the cringing b*st*rds.
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
It's a liability thing. If you measure and the replacement doesn't fit then they'd want to charge you for the error. If one of their people measures and it doesn't fit then it's clearly their fault.4mastacker wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 11:08 amBlitish Glass man arrived on time to survey our leaking radiator. The only document which ever trumped my Special ID was that of Jim H, a colleague, whose personal papers recorded that he was born on April 20th. It was still a special day in Germany of the 1970s and 80s.

Absolutely amazing, the security people arrived to fix the CCTV. He switched it on and it worked. Like taking your dog to the vets. He then switched it off and it didn't thank goodness. They were here for an hour it seemed to be a power supply problem. Working now.

April the 20th 1980, the day I inadvertently celebrated Hitler's birthday with a drunken group of German's in a secluded bar in Luderitz Bay in what was then South West Africa. One of the assembled 'Kameraden' was the grandfather of a friend who had invited me to the party (nobody had mentioned that it was in honour of "Der Fuehrer" and the fact that it was a Nazi party mind you). The grandfather had flown Messerschmitt 109's during the war (a fact which nobody had mentioned to me before either) and who had upped sticks to SWA after the war. It was an "interesting" evening resulting in me becoming extraordinarily drunk and being thrown into the bay to cool off and sober up at the end of a long evening!

Happy Groundhog Day!
For the record, Punxsutawney Phil, our "Official Groundhog" saw his shadow.
6 more weeks of winter according to Groundhog legend.
Groundhog Day 2023: Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter
Phil’s prediction this year came during a week when a mess of ice, sleet and snow has lingered across much of the southern United States.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — A furry critter in a western Pennsylvania town has predicted six more weeks of winter during an annual Groundhog Day celebration.
People gathered Thursday at Gobbler’s Knob as members of Punxsutawney Phil’s “inner circle” summoned him from his tree stump at dawn to learn if he has seen his shadow — and they say he did. According to folklore, if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, spring comes early.
The “inner circle” is a group of local dignitaries who are responsible for planning the events, as well as feeding and caring for Phil himself.
The annual event in Punxsutawney, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, originated from a German legend about a furry rodent. The gathering annually attracts thousands.
This year, Phil’s prediction came during a week when a mess of ice, sleet and snow has lingered across much of the southern U.S.
According to records dating back to 1887, Phil has predicted winter more than 100 times. Ten years were lost because no records were kept, organizers said.
The 2021 and 2022 forecasts also called for six more weeks of winter.
While Punxsutawney Phil may be the most famous groundhog seer, he’s certainly not the only one. New York City’s Staten Island Chuck made his prediction for an early spring during an event Thursday at the Staten Island Zoo.
