Would this be the ghost of A H F Ducommun and/or other parts suppliers come to haunt us after being flagged up nearly 2 decades ago?

Whatever the case, expect another down turn in Boeing shares...
Hang on though, don't sell, they will spring back.. you can bury bodies but money is eternal!

I assume Qantas want to maintain their hull loss record. They do seem to try to stop things getting too bent even when it costs over the odds.
Re: 30 Quantas Boeing 737 aircraft grounded
I understood there was an FAA directive to check the "pickle fork" for cracks weeks ago, and it was non-urgent ie. as in next major (or whatever they do these days). The QANTAS media blurb was most probably aired by the Society of Maintenance Engineers in their battle to get maintenance work returned to Australia from Singapore or wherever its done nowadays.

Alison, quite. As I said at the time the first finger in the air of 35,000 or within 3,500 of that seemed like guess. Now more than 20% earlier . . .
That crack was on the surface. Now I don't know about NDT, but was that to find none visible cracks or cracks not accessible visually?

Boeing were interviewed and asked how often the 737 crashed, they said just the once
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Re: 30 Quantas Boeing 737 aircraft grounded
If it’s a really good crash it usually is only once. Perhaps if they were asked how often 737s (plural) crashed (pedants hat on) then the truthful answer would have been ‘several have over 50 odd years of service’?
Sloppy journalism and interviewing again! OMG, the damage caused to my brain by CFS!

Ryanair reported as taking 3 of their fleet out of service due to suspect pickle forks according to the Daily Fail newspaper today.
I didn’t think any of their fleet had reached the total hours trigger but they do all work hard....?

Re: 30 Quantas Boeing 737 aircraft grounded
I'd say it's not just total hours, but cycles that are important. I guess if they have routes through bumpy air then that might accelerate problems too.

Plant it, stop it, thereby ensuring no overruns which is a favourite topic of mine.
Not that I’ve ever explored the golf course in the runway departure end whilst strapped into seat row 0!
I’m sure there must be other airlines around the world finding their pickle forks cracking despite relatively gentle arrivals in the airframes’ histories?

I hope you mean you plant the aircraft to avoid the overrun. Very lucky that FR starts the winter schedule so taking out 3 aircraft wouldn't cause a big problem.barkingmad wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 7:28 pmPlant it, stop it, thereby ensuring no overruns which is a favourite topic of mine.

RiS, indeed I was referring to the daily attempts to proof test the PCN of the paved surface.
And as previously argued to so do as early as possible in a medium sized jet as opposed to pretending I’ve got ‘wide body long gear’ underneath the ‘frame.
